image.jpeg I don't like tactical shotguns as a rule, though I have one. I really like what you've done there with yours.Good looking, retro-styling, reliable platform, good sights, all at non-extravagant cost. Much better looking than mine. Well done.

My, rather ugly by comparison, truck and camp gun attached.

I love the look of a trench gun. The reality is one could do pretty good work with a classic trench gun. It wouldn't be my first choice for actually fighting for my life though. I don't know what the tactical cool widgets are that people bemoan. Any of the following actually enhance use if they are A) quality kit, B) well thought out, and C) the user knows how to use them. Lights, side saddle, sights.

I love the '97 and it is just cool. It certainly wouldn't be a welcome sight for someone trying to kick down a bedroom door with malicious intent. However, the other two are better HD tools in my opinion.

I'm embarrassed to ask this but, what on earth is a trench gun?

The descriptor comes up from time to time, I just nod my head.

Shotguns were first used militarily by the US in WWI, in the trenches, hence the term. It's generally understood to mean an 18" to 20" barreled shotgun with a sling, bayonet and heat shield. Trench gun and Riot gun sort of run together description-wise.

Indeed the Model 97 Trench Gun was used to such devastating effect on German soldiers in the trenches during WWI that the German government (yes the same people who brought you poison gas, flamethrowers, U-boats, and Zeppelin bombing attacks), threatened to execute any U.S. soldier found with a trench gun or shotgun shells. The U.S. countered with the statement that for every Doughboy executed an equal number of German POWs would meet a similar fate.

No one was executed on either side despite the intimidating threats that were made.

I have plastic furniture on my old Mossberg. I gave 100 buck's for it in the late 90's at a union meeting lol
If I survive and happen to burn my hand due to the fact that mine has no heat shield and whine about that I hope y'all will be kind enough to take up a collection for a pacifier for me.

Tooshay

The heat shields on the Mossbergs are handy, and effective. On an M590A1 though... it adds even more weight to an already muzzle heavy gun.

May as well throw these up here
