I am a journeyman machinist, and have been building firelocks for around 28 years now. I am interested in the Old Army cylinder mod, but I'd like to do it myself. I need to know the type of cutter-(I'm thinking a ball nose end mill) to do the job. I've heard it gets machined flush with nipple faces, just removing the "as cast" material in the bottom. I just dont want to go to deep:eek: I would like the extra powder for increased velocity, I'm going hog hunt'n:evil: As always, thank you for the help:evil:

Nope, NOT a ball mill! Its a special face cuttin ONLY tool, with radius cause sharp edges in pressure areas a big no-no!

Knowin HOW and designin tha tools is how tha boss be tha boss!

Yup! I jus LOVE learnin from this man! He's modest, but what he DONT know? Startin callin him BUCKAROO BANZAI cause he seems ta have a lock on EVERTHIN.

Course, what he calls me aint fit for a family forum! :)

Frosty!

Jus send that cylinder over here, aint big bucks and ya gets THA TOUCH. Course, ya COULD jus have tha MANN show ya howta do that boar with a spear!

OR, when he shoots 'em, gets a big mean territoial one ta charge, no MORE (He's tryin for 10 feet) than 15 yards afore he draws iron.

Course, tha manns killed cape buffalo with handgun! And lion, and warthogs, and and and and if it'll kill ya, he's got it first. (Natch!!!)

Jule explained what he likes to hunt to me thusly:

"If it can take me home to dinner as meat, then I am interested."

:D

He DID mention that! Course, insists with a decent sauce and wine ta go with! Ya DONT miscook prime meat! :)

Are you talking about milling down bp cylinders to make them conversion cylinders, or are you just talking about boring out to larger sizes?

Nah, Rugers&others ya increase tha DEPTH of tha chamber, more volume and powder capacity. Ifin tha whole guns here, he align hones tha chambers&barrel while he's at it.

Course, he DOES make cylinders fer jus bout everthin, and course, tha .50, .52, .54, and .58s. for tha bigguns.

Then there tha .32 and .40 three shot cylinders fer tha NAA and tha steel frame Remmie .31s.

Questions For Manyirons

How much cost and what kind of delay? Shortly I will start working on a 75 caliber boar rifle barrel, just thought maybe I'd stay after work to do the mod myself. Dont get me wrong, but I have an entire shop at my diposal. I definitely dont mind pay'in or the wait, but I've built a mess good quality guns and like tinker'n myself. Thanks to everyone who responed to this question:evil:

Hi!

Runs 5.00 per chamber shippin included. Right now about ten days, maybe less. Understand yer position! Tha boss learned M1911A1 work from Armand Swenson, (Was good friends i gather) ya might be able ta do something LIKE a Swenson, but it wouldnt be one. In my head, its sorta like counterfietin, might spend, might be jus as good (Actual fact, what they give us IS counterfeit, but i aint debatin that point now)

And SOME things it DO make me hot bein charged fer somethin i could do myself, so you're preachin to tha choir on this one! Then again, by tha time ya makes tha right cutter and all that, thinks yas gonna have a teatch more than 30.00 wrapped up in it!

CERTAIN ya want a .75? Happen ta know tha boss got a .70 barrel (Blank) rifled on shelf. (Yessir boss! This boy doin his job boss!)

Cylinder Mods

ManyIrons, I know Jule makes a 58 cylinder & barrel for the Dragoons and Walkers, but what can he do with a Navy? What does he think is the practical limit for caliber for, say, a five shot conversion of the standard Navy frame?

.40-43 caliber, has done a three shot .40 on a steel frame Remmie .31, says ifin yer going big, go BIG.
