Silly Gun Ads

All the "black & tactical" adds that Preacherman tallked about remind me of the 1980's ninja craze when every marketing martial art item or knife back then had the word "ninja" on it which added about 10 to 20 dollars to the price of a particular item.:)

I believe that sort of nonsense is the reason why nunchaku are illegal in Arizona--carry a rifle, shotgun, pistol, katana, warhammer, fine, but, good god, you can't even own the deadly numchucks!

Good points made and I agree the ads do nothing to promote a positve image of responsible firearm ownership to the public.

I like the old marketing concept of Trout and Reys called "Positioning". What position do you want to have in the public's mind?

Take a look at the ads for products in the gun magazines in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Look at some of the poster's and Tin signs of Ammo, firearms, knfe companies.

Yes, the shells were touted to hit the high flying ducks, or the action was faster because the "throw" on a lever action was shorter. Nobody really believed the knife was actually going to stop the bear attack.

These were ads with great pictures, simple messages, and a POSITIVE image of the firearm user. Ads showing Father and son afield, Families out plinking, including kids and ladies.

I think the reason Oleg and similar photos and images are so good - they are common sense and project the position that firearm ownership is a responsible matter. The firearm community is a responsible community.

Like the ads of old...

Too easy for antis to use some of these ads today to show a Negative Position. Look at how EBR and the sniper case was "positioned" in folks mind.

In the "old days" black and synthetic would have been "positioned" has weather resistant, less prone to change POA/POI, etc.

Red and black checkered hunting coats were a 'safety matter' before blaze orange was mandated for hunting. Socially accepted in public. Tactical and Camo often gives a negative image...

Be more difficult if the ads showed the reality of reponsiblity like those of Oleg...or the old stuff. Positive Positioning.

What position do we really want projected?

IMO

Oh, yeah. Gonna get me some of these.

Ads used to treat guns as normal, unexceptional consumer products that anybody might own. Now they are shown as tools of war. The trend towards scenes of guns in the hands of black clad SWAT types can only hurt our cause, because it reinforces the image that guns are for the police and military only, and any civilian who would want these guns are dangerous paramilitary wackos.

I'd give the combination to my gunsafe for that girl in the cobra gunskins ad ! ;) I once got a dillon calender and it P.Oed my GF. had to take it down.
