the real reasons people are buying guns

I went to the gun store the day before election day and bought some turkey rounds. The gun store was a bit busier than usual.

I went back yesterday to buy some .223 ammo. There were only four ar-15's on the wall. The gunstore guy said they were the only four left- not only the only four at his store, but that all the manufacturers were out. He listed bushmaster, colt, and several others. I said "what about doublestar?" (a local maker) he said they were out too.

So I thought of some possible reasons why people might buy guns so much right now.

1. Worried about the future availability due to political factors-- bans, taxes, and so forth.

2. It's modern gun season for deer as of this weekend (and yes, an ar-15 is a legal deer gun in kentucky).

3. People want to make sure they get an ar before all the factories close due to the economy.

4. Everyone is worried (or eager) about civil unrest or civil war or something else civil happening. Due to economic and political matters.

5. People figure that now Barrack is elected, he's going to spread lots of wealth their way, so they can go ahead and start buying the things they want.

6. They've started christmas shopping early, and a new rifle was on the wish list.

7. It's flu season, and you never know how bad it could get.

8. They heard that everyone else is doing it, and wanted not to be left out.

9. They were planning on buying one even before they knew it was going to be popular.

10. They saw their neighbors armoring up, and didn't want to be outgunned by the joneses.

11. After seeing so many mindless twits vote for that jerk (whichever jerk you didn't support), they have come to the conclusion that their fellow citizens may actually be zombies!, and are preparing to defend themselves in case the zombies! declare open season on brains!

6. They've started Christmas shopping early, and a new rifle was on the wish list.
Actually, THAT was my reason.
I saw the prices rising and stock disappearing on the gun my wife is getting me for Christmas, so I bought it while I could. Test-fired now and all ready to be wrapped up with a bow on it.

12. They figure tax season is coming, and considering how expensive it is to feed, an AR-15 would count as another dependant.

13. Global warming has forced a large pack of coyotes to populate their apartment complex.

14. 2009 is one year closer to the inevitable alien invasion.

15. Not all of us can afford a batmobile, so we get the next coolest thing.

16. We're getting pretty close to winter, and black is supposed to be really in-style this season.

17. Bored of watching the news and need a new hobby.

18. Feel empowered by Obama's victory, and want to express that "yes we can" attitude.

19. Finally cashed in that jar of pennies.

20. Preparation for the apes to become intelligent and take over the planet.

21. Other guns were getting bored of eachother and needed a new safe mate.

22. Don't know what to do with all of that money we're saving with the lower gas prices.

expvideo, did you come up with those yourself? Dang, I wish I were that clever!!! Hat's off to ya! :p

Yes, you should have stopped after #1. That's 95%+ of the reason.

Come on, you don't think deer season, peer pressure, and christmas all put together account for 5% or more?

I especially like the expvideo ones about black being the in color, and the yes we can attitude.

Coyotes have expanded their range a lot in recent years, and even entered urban areas, but i think it's nothing to do with warming, since historically they lived from mexico to Canada, but in the west.

Damn Joneses

We are always outgunned by the Joneses, literally. I buy a pump action shotgun, they by a semi-auto. I hunt with a lever action .30-30, they get 3. My Dad uses .303, so they get a .30-06 in addition to the .32 Remingtion (obsolete but good) that they have. I buy a .22lr, so they get two. We have like 10 guns so they need to have 15. Damn Jones family. (Yes, they really are the Joneses, no joke)

24. They're trying to stimulate the economy.

25. They're trying to save the local government money by being able to protect themselves, thus reducing the need for police budget increases.

26. They realize that Tasers use electric charges that often come from dirty, coal-burning powerplants, and that defensive sprays contain aerosols that damage the ozone layer. Firearms are more environmentally friendly.

27. They're going to try hunting because of the rising cost of groceries. You'll see a lot of new hunters looking for deer up in the trees next season.

28. Now that TV has switched to digital, they can longer get a signal, and they're bored.

29. Disappointed in the reastion to their Halloween costume, which was supposed to make them look like Neo form The Matrix, they decided to supplement next years efforts with real, live firearms.

30. All those campaign signs left on the street corners make perfect range targets, and even come with their own stands.

Could the gunstore guy be telling you why stock levels were so low to bait you into buying like everyone else? Do you know for sure that the 4 rifles were all they had and the distributors are also out of stock? Remember a salesman's job is to move the inventory.

30. Got a loan to "remodel" the den... uh-huh... remodel it into an armory!

31. Oprah recommended it. Apparently an AR15 is one of her "favorite things".

32. Must buy 3 five-shot revolvers each, to replace the 15 round auto loaders that will be illegal.

33. Stocking up on AR-15 magazines. I have 65 of them, currently, and I'm always looking for more! Maybe I'll buy a rifle to use them in, one day... :neener:

34. Don't forget to stock up on revolver speedloaders... they're the "hi-caps" of the 1950's!

11. After seeing so many mindless twits vote for that jerk , they have come to the conclusion that their fellow citizens may actually be zombies!
Well, it's got to be mentioned...

Half the people panic buying AR-15s and such in my area voted Obama. I've never seen so many Obama bumper stickers in front of a gun shop.

Maybe it's a "what have I done" thing; I don't know.

The other market segment are the affluent, who are mass-buying rifles on speculation. Their intentions are clear, and I won't shed a tear for them when a) the "ban" fails to materialize, or b) it doesn't drive prices up much.

These people are depriving others of product while it's reasonably priced. They're just like the machine-gun collectors who support the 1986 FOPA because it preserves the inflated market value.

Maybe the Obama supporters are getting a head start and stocking up for the Civilian Security force. Or perhaps they think that once the US is deflated to a Third World country, they will need something to shoot in the air willl lining the streets in protest. Sorry... Better stop....Blood Pressure Rising.....

I did it. I voted for Obama but since I realized he was definitely going to win a while back I bought an AK, an XD and a little high cap 9mm. Beat the rush I always say.

I honestly don't see a ban coming, those idiots will have too much to figure out for a long time coming and I think with the current (and shameful) situation on the streets of America a gun ban will draw a HUGE protest.

Not too worried though, Some things need to be fixed aroung here and I think that takes precedence.
