What can I expect to get trading these guns?

Planning on going to the big Houston gun show next month (gun-nut coworker just invited me to go with him)

I'm sick of my stupid Kel-Tec P11, and have grown increasingly unimpressed with my Ruger P89's accuracy (it's not bad, but it's also nowhere near as good as my SA 1911).

So - I'm thinking about trading both of them towards a (ta-da!) CZ-75B in 9mm. Basically I want another full-size DA/SA Wondernine, and the CZ is the best of them for its price.

So, what should I expect trading these? Both are in good (somewhere between 'good' and 'excellent', really) condition, and I have the boxes/manuals/spare mags/ etc.

I would think it fair to trade both straight-up for a NIB CZ-75. Is that reasonable, and should I expect to get that trade? Or am I vastly over/undervaluing my own guns? Technically I have about $600 invested in the two, and I know a CZ is only about $400, but I have heard Ruger P-series have a poor resale value, and I just don't expect to get much for the KT.

Thanks in advance...

Your Ruger P-89 is worth about $250-300 and the Kel-Tec seems to go for about $150-200 even for used if sold out right to a private party. That's $400-500 so it is not unreasonable to trade both for a CZ-75b. The dealers buy the CZ-75 for a lot less than $400 so a good dealer would make the trade and make some money. A bad dealer, will probably want a few hundred extra dollars to make sure he makes a profit.

I have to disagree with you here! The Beretta 92fs is the best full sized 9mm on the market for the money. You should be able to find a like new Beretta 92fs with nite sights and some factory hi-caps for $400.00! Then you will have one of the best 9mm out there. IMHO even better than the CZ-75.

You should try and sell you guns first and then take your cash and buy the gun you want. Dealers will give you a better deal if they see you have cash in hand rather than wanting to trade. It is just like when you take your car to a dealer to get a trade in, they give you less than you would get if you sold it yourself but it is easier to do it that way with cars. With guns, if you are already at a gunshow, you have hundreds of potential buyers that are just looking for a deal. $250 for a LNIB Ruger P-89 would seem like a heck of a good deal after they just compared one just like it on a dealer's table selling for $399 or more.

I have had good luck selling my guns at gunshows, the trick is ask a price that is more than the dealers will give you to sell but less than the price that a dealer would ask if he sold it. Too many people try to get crazy prices for their used guns. Sometimes I will see a guy walking around with a gun that I may be interested in and when I ask him how much, it is often more than I could buy it for new somewhere else! I'm sorry if they are not careful shoppers and paid WAY too much for a gun but that doesn't mean that the person they sell it to has to over pay as well. For example, at a recent gunshow I went to, there was a guy selling a Chinese SKS. I was in the market for an SKS at the time so I ask the price, he said $400 but he would consider offer!:D I didn't even consider making an offer because his price was about 4 times what I was looking to pay. A few weeks later I bought a like new Yugo SKS from Aim for $150 shipped.

If you can't get 2 for 1, you'd be really close ;) You might get a tad more if you sell the two guns out right & do your best at finding the best deal on the CZ...:D

Id see if the "straight across" for the CZ would happen. Just dont jump on the first bandwagon you see. If you trade them, the next shop you would have went to would have thrown in a hi cap also....:D

Shoot well
