What is your favorite handgun (choose one) and why did you choose it?

My favorite:
HK USP 45 Compact.

It's been 100% reliable with any and all ammo. I shoot it more accurately than any other pistol I own. It fits me like a glove. It makes me happy! :D

My generation three Glock 19. It just feels right to me. A perfect fit. I really like this pistol. Didn't care for Glocks until the re-designed generation three grips. Now I can't get enough of them. Oh, and shoots great as well.

It's a tie between a my Sig 226 and my Dad's Glock 17

But they share the same points:

they work. Every time.
Accurate enough for what I need.
Excellent ergonomics
I'm used to them.

So, it all boils down to 'it works'. In the end, that's what really matters, right?

Backing up gbelleh, I gotta hold the USPc, except that mine's a .40 (no .45 when I got it), and for his stated reasons, plus one more: it can be the CCW for a "small" person!

My favorite big bore is the only one that I have right now, a CZ-97B in .45acp.

Just one? thats rough.

I think my 25-5 Smith, .45 Colt, is THE favorite. This 6 inch N Frame has been totally redone. Brushed Chrome finish, tritium sights, beveled cylinder, melted corners, extra cylinder fitted for .45ACP, hand carved rose wood stocks. It is one serious shooter. looks pretty good too.

FAVORITE

If "limited" I'd pick one of my GP100's, but the question was "Favorite"............

I got this lightly tweaked (Nowlin barrel, hardchromed, both by Mr. Cogan at www.apwcogan.com) EAA Witness in 9x19. It's a one-off, with some oddities in its shape.
I got this 1911, Caspian of course, that is the pinnacle of high-quality parts; Bar-Sto, Ed Brown, EGW, CMC, Bo-Mar, Caspian, Ahrends, Nowlin, and NP3'd by the fine folks at www.robarguns.com, then correctly 'smithed by anon friend into a piece of 45 ACP perfection..............

Both guns are 'bet your life' guns, with the only bobble in the Caspian (other than during experiments with "how light can I go" loads) caused by a known-bad case that slipped into my stash, and the Witness, which has to be at or past 30K rds, has NEVER failed IF the ammo fits the chamber (that Nowlin chamber was left tight, and this gun flat shoots).

Heck, they both stinkin' accurate.
But only one........fav..........the Witness.
I think.

Aaaargh.

Just one, huh?

This is really tough. Let's see, out of the few I own...

My most common carry is a P239 9MM, but its 8 round mag would knock it out of contention. Nice shooter, too. And it has never jammed.

The P229 .40 and the P94 .40 are both guns that I expect will last much longer than I will, but I'd be better off with a more common cartridge. Too bad -- I have lots of mags for the Ruger. And the Sig is my favorite to shoot.

The Springfield 1911 is fun to shoot, and will probably last forever too. Pretty common ammo. I like more capacity, though. ARRGGHHH.

Dang. Both the 357 and 44 mag wheel guns are very accurate and pack a whallop. Love shooting them. Easy to make sure I don't lose casings, so I can reload. Do revolvers ever wear out?

Okay, there are a few other also rans, but at this very moment I'd have to pick my Ruger KP95DC. Common ammo, tough, good shooter, lots of pre-ban mags for it -- it is just the best compromise of all that I own. Not the best shooter, not the most compact, not the prettiest (may be close to ugliest), not the most durable nor the funnest.

I'd better press the button before I change my mind.

You asked two questions really.

1)What is your favorite handgun?

That would be the SIG Sauer 220. Any of them but the 220ST is my personal favorite. The 220 has always been my favorite handgun all the way back to being a little kid and having role playing characters carry one.

It is reliable to a fault, robust, looks great, has some snob appeal and shoots what I believe to be one of the finest defensive rounds ever made, the .45 ACP.

2)If I could only choose one gun should the gun grabbers come.

It would be my Ruger Vaquero in .357. More than usable enough for any defensive need I am ever "likely" to encounter and very versitile in what it can shoot, from .38-.357. It is rugged and simple to maintain, makes a good club in a pinch and is very very purty.

The big reason though is because it was the first gun that Sheslinger ever bought me and she did it in a way that I knew nothing about it. She just handed me the box one morning as I was laying in bed and it was so cool. Not the gun itself so much as the thought that went into it and the fact that It was the first gun Sheslinger ever bought. She went out on her own and did it all. I rank this one up there with some of my childhood memories so the Vaquero never gets sold, given away or taken away period. It is my cold dead hand gun but for my own very sentimental reasons.

Simple answer to a simple question.

M1911A1

And now for why:

No other auto pistol fits my hand as perfectly as a 1911. Nothing has that classic style and utilitarian look of the 1911. Nothing can be the same pistol, from being the plain jane military 1911, all the way to a tricked out race gun.

Inherant power... the .45ACP is a known manstopper. No drawbacks there, and with various types of loads, there is quite enough versatility to go from target shooting, to self defense.

Magazines are PLENTIFUL and aren't very expensive.

Ammo is easily reloadable. Cases can be reloaded dozens of times.

So if it were down to ONE gun, for everything, I would grab a trusty 1911. Preferrably a milspec.

[edited to say:] Dang... I already replied to this one... but my answer was the same.

Colt Gold Cup fine tuned by Clark in La. Calo .45ACP
Why : i guess i just love the feel of it. It is easy to shoot I have had a M1911 A1 , of some sorts, ever since 1963.
Have many other auto's and rev. But that is the one that will alwasys be with me. Radmeter

Sig P220- I was out shooting with a friend. He handed me a 220 and said Try this, it's very accurate. Luckily it was his second p220 and for sale. I never handed it back. It hits what I point at more consistantly than any other gun that I have.

FIRST OFF I MUST SAY THIS - I PLAN TO CHEAT!

BUT FOR MY "OFFICIAL" ONE GUN WOULD HAVE TO BE THE MOST VERSITILE ONE I OWN. COLT 1911. CONVERTABLE FROM 45 ACP TO 9MM AS WELL AS 22 WITHOUT A NEW FRAME. ALSO CAN BE USED FOR BIG GAME IF YOU CAN LOCATE A S.A.S.S. UNIT IN 308 OR SUCH. I CAN ALSO FIT A COMMANDER TOP END FOR CCW IF I WISH(AND I HAVE ON MY CURRENT 1911 IT HAS 4 SLIDES )

Only One-

Greeting's Friend's-

After a lengthy delay due to a complete computer crash;
I'm back up and running after overhauling my system.

Now, for the answer to your question; my one and only
weapon of choice would be the SIG-Sauer P220A in .45 ACP. Reason? Reliability and the availability of .45
ACP ammo!

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

Right now, I'd have to say my Wilson Tac Elite.
I only have about 1000 rounds through it but it has not had a single malfunction - something that can't be said for even my HK USP's.
Recoil is a non-issue. Follow up shots are easy. The trigger is sweet. It's way more accurate than it needs to be for my purposes. The workmanship is first class. The company stands behind their work.

Essentially you've asked two different questions here. First you say "what is your favorite handgun" then you turn it into "which would you keep if you only could keep one". Those questions don't necessarily have the same answer.

Which is my favorite? I have several guns that I like that don't come close to being a favorite but my top four are so close that anyone can be at the top depending upon my mood at the time. It doesn't help that each one is different enough and serves enough of a different purpose that it is hard to say. Also, any difference is such a small splitting of hairs that I have recently quit trying to decide which is my favorite (today, as they are so close that when I did it could be a different answer the next day)- picking one would be similar to asking a parent which kid is his/her favorite. My four are my 6" S&W 586, 3" S&W 65LS, Charles Daly 1911 and my CZ 75B.

If I could only keep one it would probably be the 65LS. It is a beautiful gun, it is accurate, 100% reliable, concealable (should CCW become an option for me), etc. It can shoot powerful .357mag ammo, good strong .357 defensive ammo, good .38 and .38+P defensive ammo and cheap .38 plinking ammo depending upon my needs at the time. The CZ is a close second, and depending upon my mood and the specific situation should that become a necessary choice, could possibly get the nod instead (accurate, reliable, it's narrow and concealable for a full-sized double stack auto, strong +Ps, good defensive ammo and cheap practice ammo). Both choices are in very flexible platforms and chamberings, are guns I absolutely love (look and feel thing), are accurate and extremely reliable- and both are guns that I wanted and waited for before buying for some time.
