I didn't stop belonging to the NRA because they sent me mail all the time or that they called me now and again. But when they started sending me unasked for tapes of Tales of the Gun and wanting some money I was done.
Why?
They sent me a DVD of Top Ten Guns That Changed The World (or something like that). When I got it you couldn’t tell what it was and it had no return address, so I ripped the box open and inside was the DVD/letter telling me watch and keep, and if I like, send money or just return the DVD.
If I had known what it was I would have stuck it back in the box and refused shipment, but I certainly ain’t gonna go through the cost/trouble of re-packing it and sending it back. From what I understand, the law/Post Office says if you receive unsolicited items like this you don’t have to return ‘em, so I kept it and both I and my friends have enjoyed watching it!
Sure they tried to send me a few e-mails wondering where their money was, but based on the law, I just tossed the letters in the trash, and when the guy finally called, I told him what I understood the law to be and that was the end of that.
Won’t nuttin’ stop ‘em from sending you videos faster than just keeping the first one without paying for it!
BTW…not that it makes much difference, but if you read the fine print the video is not from the NRA, but a “partner” (I assume the NRA sold ‘em a mailing list?)
Now you wanna talk ‘bout something crappy…stay away from that credit card they’re offering from Bank of Omaha? I was going to order something from Cabela’s, and took ‘em up on their offer for the CC with a free $25 Cabela’s gift certificate. Now I pay my balance in full every month on all my cards, but these clowns ended up nailing me for ‘bout 3 interest charges, even when you paid the full amount shown on the bill before the due date! I called ‘em a few times and you never heard of such screwy bookkeeping in your life (most of which I assume is illegal?). Since it was for such a small amount I didn’t fight it, FINALLY paid it off (hell, you couldn’t pay the damn thing off even if you sent the total amount shown on the bill each month!), cancelled the account, and tossed the card.
Not bashing the NRA, but they really need to watch their “partners”!
‘Course, I have no problem receiving unsolicited DVDS!
