You have $1000, what do you buy?

well i guess ill be the first to tell you what you really need. you need a Mosin nagant with 4400 rnds of ammo that comes to about $1000, or you could get 10 mosin nagant and no ammo and have a nice start to some russian wall panels.

I'd split it up.

DH needs some type of pocket gun for hot weather.
I'd put some money each towards my two oldest kids, 20 and 18, to get suitable carry guns to train with until they could carry them.
The 11yo has outgrown his Cricket and needs a suitable-sized .22, but I'd also like to get a Ruger Bearcat as a kid-training pistol.

Maybe if DH and I each had an unexpected $1000?

For myself I'd like a .20 gauge shotgun with a thumbhole stock in my size and a Taurus .92. But since I have 3 pistols, a .22 rifle, and a half-share in the 9mm carbine I already have more guns than anyone else in the house (if you don't count my late Father-in-law's WWII trophy Arisaka since its not in shooting condition).

Primers, powder, bullets. If you're reading this you already have a gun! Learn to reload. NO, you will not save money, but you will shoot more. Good shooting!

With $1000 I would be able to finally afford a carry permit $150 ($80 mandatory training + $70 prints and cost of permit). A decent handgun $400, holster $50, and decent shotgun.

Only a grand,huh...maybe a 870 express with 18 in bl and interchangable chokes + a 22 in rifled bl. with a good set of sights. Something for PD + brush rifle under 50 yds

a tommy gun. moving to sc in dec. looking at semi tommy guns as i can't afford the real deal. i do reload for 45acp. got everything else i need--just want it.

Save it or buy something you really want, don't just buy a gun because you have extra money. Make sure you have the basic rifle ,shotgun, 1911,and a hi cap quality sig, glock or H&K, package. I would get a nice gas operated shotgun, because of the lack of recoil, I just spent that on a new AR, now the fun starts with adding things to it

I would add three or four hundred more and get a Browning Model 78 Single shot in .30-06 and then start saving money towards a good Leopold Scope. Keep shootin'

I would be most tempted to spend it on a 2nd S&W 1911, (one for each hand :D)

but I would most likely spend it on/towards an M1 Garand

or

AMMO and LOTS of it!

I've been eyeballing the Savage 111LRH in 260Rem for quite some time now so if I happened to come across 1000 smackers I'd probably get that, also I'd have a bit of money left over to go towards a decent optic.

Actually, I have this situation at the moment... :D

Got the AR, the 1911, S&W target revolver, HD shotgun, a couple of .22s...

Don't have a .30 rifle (.308, 30/06) -maybe an M1A, PTR 91, or M1 Garand.

Or a good centerfire bolt action rifle.

But I've been thinking about getting one or two guns that appear on several AWB lists; I've lived in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts - all of which have made certain firearms "illegal" - and I think it would be a kind of symbolic "Flipping the Bird" at these places (as well as California and Maryland.)

On second thought, I'd give it to my wife. She has given up more for me and bitten the bullet on my interests, never asking anything in return. That being said, maybe a donation to a Veterans Organization. I reality, I have everything I need, not everything I want. There is a difference. Sorry for taking it to a different direction. So I'm still ahead of the curve compared to most. BTW, Happy Veterans Day. May God Bless US All.

A little over $1000 is what I usually get for a tax return.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get an 870 (really want to start trap shooting) and some accessories that can convert it to a good HD shotgun. Then also a mosin nagant and some ammo for both.

Or a cheapish AK with some accessories and some ammo.

Or a colt AR with some ammo.

I think the latter two could be really useful in case the SHTF and just a good idea to have in general, but the 870 would serve a wider range of purposes. At this point in time I only have .22 rifles and a 1911.

:banghead:

For some reason I would really like to build an AR-15 style .410. That's what I'd do if I had a grand not needed for something else. I really want a .410 for my wife anyway since she's not comfortable shooting my handguns, and my Mossberg 500 knocks her off her feet. She's a rifle type anyway. I figure that AR/.410 would be a useful addition all the way around. HD for her and cool toy for me.

I would be on the fence over an AR in 6.8 spc, one of those Ruger GS Scout rilfes or a 45/70 lever action. Any left over funds would go toward reloading equipment.

A (now defunct) outfit out of Turkey offered an AR style .410. You can probably still find them. MSRP on them was just under a grand, IIRC.
