so I picked up this fine rifle and been playing with it and at $99 I thought well heck you can't buy a used 22 rifle for that on the street even tho I own a ruger 10/22 and henry h001 leveraction rifle in which I really like! but I thought lets try this little gun out so after getting this in which was a nearly two weeks ago then I became very sick so I couldn't play with it until this week! so of course been trying different ammos I had and found out this little rifle turned out to be very good infact shoots super accurate groups better than my ruger 10/22 does using the federal value pack 325rnd 36gr cphp at 1260fps so I couldn't believe how good this rifle does and functions! I did find out the federal automatch it didn't cycle the bolt back enough and it didn't like them anyway groups wasn't that great but with those other federal shells it did perform super good! so I guess the old sayin is true don't judge a book by it's cover because it might surprise you! so I really like this savage 22 rifle and are excited to go hunt some squirrels and rabbits this fall! so anyone else tried this savage model 62f and your thoughts and experiences? ;)

Every time I see one of those at Walmart I think about getting one to keep behind my truck seat.

Then I think about the 30 minutes I’d have to wait to get an associate to the sporting goods counter and I decided it’s not worth my time lol.

today I took it back out and tried some cci blazers and I believe these outperformed the federal value pack 36gr cphp! the cci blazers are 40gr solidnose and they tore one hole in the cardboard and held a very tight group so I am glad to see this as I don't like hollowpoints for hunting squirrels and rabbits something i'm gonna eat! I like the solidnose bullets much better!!

Man I wish blazers were still in good supply. It is the best bulk ammo I've ever shot in two of my guns. I found 3 little 50 round boxes the other day which is the first I have seen in at least 6 years. My second favorite supprizingly is Remington golden bullet. I've shot all the different kinds of federal bulk and never liked any of them.

you know cci is by far some of the best 22 ammo I have had the pleasure of shooting never a problem with it like the blazers and cci mini mags!! ;)

Blazers are very good, you almost can't put them in the same category as other "bulk" rounds. My second favorite are Golden Bullets as well. For all the hate they get, I find them almost as accurate as Mini Mags, and at the most I might get 1-2 failures out of a pack of 525 which is about the same as I get with any other bulk pack. Not including Blazers, I think those are the only bulk pack where I've never had a FTF.

I too have had the no employee in sight waiting experience at Walmart.
Take out phone, google the stores number and call. When operator anwers, request help in sporting goods.

Yes, amazon and the interweb have put the hurt on brick and mortar stores, even walmart. I have yet to buy any .22 ammo from walmart either.

Hopefully the rifle is available elsewhere... there is just no good reason to buy firearms there. BTW did you enjoy being escorted out with your firearm as if you were a possible criminal?

I have never had to wait more than a few minutes.

I don't think any of the walmarts around here sell guns. they sell ammo but I have seen next to no 22 ammo, although they seem to have plenty of other calibers.

I've been seeing that rifle for that at Wal-Mart as well. In January of 2016, I paid that at Wal-Mart for a Mossberg 702, and what an impressive little rifle that turned out to be. I've been wanting to get maybe two more, but they don't carry them anymore (the price had gone up to $117, too.) I've considered the Savage, but I like the shorter barrel on the Mossberg.

Interestingly, the AutoMatch ammo is all I've run so far through the Mossberg, and it ran flawlessly (it also did in my Taurus PT22, the only other gun I've tried it in as of yet. Everything else has been getting MiniMags, but the AutoMatch is probably going to become my new "go-to" round for the most part.)

I have got to play with the 702 and the little savage, I don't own one yet, but it is in the near future.

Man I am just shocked at how well they shoot. The one I shot had a Tasco scope....I bet he paid $30 for the scope and we shot out the markings on playing cards at 50. Fantastic little rifles that just work and shoot fantastic.

We tried thunderbolts up to some of the better CCI stuff as well and it all was at least minute of pop can at 100....and all hit the playing card at 50. You can't ask more of a 22 rifle past that.

They shoot head and shoulders above my 10-22's...and yes I know I will get harped on for being a Ruger hater....not really just calling out what it is.

I will say the Savage and the Mossberg are built to a price point....but the money spent on the gun is spent to make the gun do what we all want a gun to do....you are paying your money to put a hole where you want the hole...not for just a name like with the ruger...... All this talk is making me want to order one of each now...you guys are going to have me sleeping on the couch.

I am going to look up and see what my prices are on them.

Curse you red baron....oh well I got my birthday money....wifie gave me 150 to play with....bet I can bet both for that.

I read so many people surprised by the accuracy and reliability these Savage rifles new and out of the box.
Cooey semi-auto made for Savage in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada, like the Model 60 Marlin, it has been sold under various tradenames.
aka Cooey|Winchester-Cooey|Lakefield|Savage Model 62|64|954 (letters after number identifying style) and Sears Roebuck & Co. Model 6C.

Is this current, or back in the "old days".

Is this current savage a new animal?

I called Wal-Mart last night to see if they had 62F's in stock.. The young man said I'd have to come over at about 7:30 when the regular gun salesman is there. At 7:30 the man looked into his computer terminal and found one in "lock down" in the back room. He asked if I was a serious buyer as he'd have to call a manager to get the gun out of the back. I told him I was a shopper! He could not give me a price until he got the gun out. After a long delay the gun came out and the salesman could not believe the price. I had a spare $99 in my wallet so I bought it along with some Tootsie-Rolls and a bore brush. $105 in all.
After about an hour I had a cheapie Simmons scope mounted.
I just got home from the rifle club. It is a fine shooter. I was using Browning .22 LR's. It shoots fine with 6 rounds in the clip. Any more and it becomes a jam-o-matic. After about 100 rounds, there was 4 jams due to the nose of the round bending during chamberimg. There were no defective Tootsie-Rolls.
For $99-- go buy one!

I have the Mossberg 702 Plinkster, which I believe is the same gun. I love it. Feels and shoots just like a BB gun.

I found out after taking mine apart and cleaning it several times plus running around 300 rounds or so mine now works even better I guess it needed to loosen up a bit so keep it clean and shoot it a bit and come back and tell me what you think? plus cci blazers and mini mags work great in mine... ;)

Take it apart? I'll look for a "You Tube" tutorial to see if I can possibly screw up something while disassembling it. I hafta' look before I leap into anything with a screwdriver or my hammer.

Mcarbo has trigger spring sets for the rifle to lighten its trigger pull a bit. These savages are good .22 rifles but lack aftermarket support like extended mags etc.

its easy to take apart the two screws that hold the trigger and that barrel clamp on mine are 1/4in allen wrench but some earlier models had a 7/16 boxed end wrench on those same two screws theres nothing you can do to hurt it the trigger group I take it off but don't take apart other wise and rest is simple! ;)
