I only carry a tiny North American Arms .22 revolver when I'm at home. It's light enough that it doesn't even weigh down gym shorts, anything larger and I know I wouldn't carry it at my house.
I live in the country with a 120 yard long driveway, but soon after I moved in and was working on the house I opened my door to go down into the garage and saw a dude standing in the stairs looking up at me. My only immediate weapons was a small knife in my pocket, and the cordless drill that was in my hand.
He had the guts to walk into my open garage door and start going up the steps, his story was he knew there was a house for rent in the area and wanted to know if it was mine. I told him my house absolutely was not for rent and he certainly wasn't welcome to just waltz in like that. I'm pretty sure his story was legit because the entire time he was staring at the drill gun in my hand and seemed concerned about what I was going to do with it. Since that time I've worked from home on several occasions and have watched cars pull all the way back my driveway just to turn around. I go out to "meet" them and they quickly drive away. So I don't think I'm being paranoid by carrying 100% of the time. I do live in a safe area, and I intend to keep it that way.
