How do you store your brass?

I have a ton of brass and I’m trying to come up with a better way to store it.

Currently I’m using the clear totes from Walmart and I have two of the largest ones full of .223 and 9mm (with more to put in them) and 3 of the next size down for the other calibers I shoot.

I’m interested to see how everyone stores there large amounts of brass. 5 gallon buckets are not even an option for me.

Thanks

Brian

I use 5 gallon buckets for most of it, but a friend owns a lumber yard and they get deck screws in neat square plastic containers that are about 2.5 gallons in size, with clamp on lids and handles. He saves these for me, and I've got about a dozen full of various calibers of brass.

Hope this helps.

A couple years worth of Amazon boxes. Packing tape, a sharpie, and a basement complete the job. I probably have close to 500# back there.

Personally, I use 20MM Ammo Cans. 30 Cal & 50 Cal for Ammo, 20mm for Brass

I use the Rubbermaid Rough Neck bins from Home Depot. Can stack a couple of large tupper ware bins and some gallon bags in them. Then I have a metal bakers rack that I got at Target, set the shelves so I can stack two tubs on each other if need be. Works pretty well for keeping everything organized.

The ones I normally use have are clear and have lids/two blue handles fold up to hold lid down forget the brand. They 2 gallon size. Haven't bought any in a while but if I remember correctly
(which only happens at 10% of the time)were like $2 and change at Wally World.
Not to heavy when full of brass.
Stack nicely too.

I use 3 gal bucket to store my brass. With my bad back I find the 5 gal size gets to heavy for me to move comfortably . The rubbermaid containers I found out can not take heat and hold up. I have several where the lids have just crumbled.

I have used many different containers. 5 gallon buckets for my pistol cases. I have three buckets full of 40S&W and two buckets of 45 ACP. I use baby formula containers for cleaned and prepped brass as that was about the right amount to dump into the case feeder on my 650. The big container of animal crackers also makes a nice brass container. The square plastic buckets of peanut-butter in pretzels comes in works well for small quantities too. 1 Gallon buckets that grout or joint compound comes in work to if you clean them out real well. Just about any container with a decent lid I have probably pressed into brass storage service at one time or another.

While I use smaller stackable plastic storage containers for most of the components I use regularly at the bench, I use 5 gallon buckets for storing found range brass in the garage till I can get to it and sort/clean it. For larger containers inside in the reloading room, I've found the new square, one gallon ,"space saving" Ice Cream pails work very well. They fit on my shelves nicely, stack well, the lids seal quite well and with the handle attached, work great for taking to the range and picking up spent brass. Much less cumbersome than 5 gallon pails.

For calibers I don't have a lot of brass for, or for brass I keep segregated (round count/gun specific) I use plastic food containers or Tupperware containers. Bigger bulk lots I have cardboard parts boxes I get from work. Bulk (7.62, 5.56mm) I have either clear poly bags, or even bigger boxes I get from work.

I don't store huge amounts of brass, I know the likelihood I'll ever get to processing 15K 5.56mm cases is nil, so I scrap most of it and keep specific headstamps for a general volume of about 5-7K... which is still unlikely, but more reasonable. I don't like mismatched containers, I'm weird that way... so no milk or coffee jugs for me.

Oddly enough, I have an almost unlimited source of buckets of all sizes... pool chemicals... but I don't use them, I've always been concerned with contamination.

Empty coffee cans. I think it’s the farmer in me. I get a new one every month from my consumption and all the cans from work.

They are perfect for the amounts of brass I have for most calibers. And when I get a full one of range brass I don’t use it goes into a medium flat rate box to sell/trade.

The look super nice if you’ll spray paint them and mark them with a paint pen if your into that sort of thing.

I got a trash sack full from work the other day. My wife caught me carrying it in and threatened me.

During the warmer summer months I just accumulate brass but keeping it together. When winter sets in and thoughts of the outdoor range fade I clean it (tumble) and move it into 1 Gallon Zip Lock bags. Then as spring moves in I load the loads I like and any experimental loads. I don't size or trim until I am ready to load the stuff.

Right there with ya! I have probably 500-700pc of lake city once fired sitting in zip lock freezer bags separated by year. Once i need more of it i grab a handful of it and trim and load.
