As you are all likely well aware Gander Mountain has closed. In its place, at our Lycoming Mall location in Muncy, PA, has reopened a Gander Sports store decked out in a blue trim theme.

The layout is much the same as the former store. That is to say that fishing is where fishing was, camping, ammo, guns, clothes, etc., in same areas of the building as they used to be.

The selection of firearms is only slightly reduced but the prices are actually reasonable and, I believe, competitive. For example, the Glock G-42 lists for $399. They have a number of 380's under $400 and still a few more under $300.

Ammo prices are down too. I saw some .380 (sorry, don't remember the brand) for $13.00/50. Mine was just a quick walk through to see what's up.

There were some objections from my friends for reasons not to shop here which I do not believe are suitable for discussion on The High Road but I largely debunked them by visiting Snopes.com.

Anyway, it will be a place to keep an eye on.

They built a brand new store over in Frisco... I didn't even have a time to go there before they rolled it up. I don't know if they are reopening any of the Gander Sports stores here... they have a LOT of competition in this area.

Gander way back when had decent prices but what i was told by an employee i knew was something happened in corporate where they redid the guns, pricing, no fulltime employees other than store manager and assistant manager. I noticed that within like a year the two that i would frequent went from normal prices to severally over what other stores would charge. I give it 5-6yrs and gander sports will go down hill also.

There was a Gander Mountain in lake Mary ,Fl..... Supposed to re-open as a Gander/Camping World, what ever .
I get their on line sales. Store not open.......

Former owner of Gander starting over.... (RESET) Only some of the stores are Gander Sport, others are Camping World, and some did not open at all.

That wasn't my understanding.
What I read was Camping World bought out Gander. So yes some are reopening under the new branding, and some are closing but theiris no "reset" as it's new ownership.

As for Camping World, I'm honoring the wish of the CEO and as a PROUD supporter of OUR PRESIDENT, I'm not going to give them my business as he said he said to "shop elsewhere" . see https://racingnews.co/2017/08/21/marcus-lemonis-donald-trump-mark-martin-nascar-rv/

Hokie, your reference as to shopping elsewhere may be in error. I would suggests that you check it out on Snopes.com before you boycott. My understanding, different from yours, is that not ALL stores were sold to Camping World. Some were retained by previous ownership and rebranded as Gander Sport. I am not positive about this. Thanks for your response.

I watched the vid where The CEO was reading a list of Gander’s that would reopen, both of the ones I’ve been to will reopen. hope their prices are more reasonable, but truthfully whether it’s Gander, Field&Stream or Cabela’s they all offer the same stuff at the same prices.

I trust Snopes as much as I do CNN.

I'll go somewhere else also or do without before going into one of those stores. .

A Gander Mountain opened in Ocala Florida 5 or six years ago. It closed last year. They're gun prices were Rediculusly high. When a large chain retailer is more expensive than a mom and pop store local people just won't support it.

I live in Frisco and I never made it over there. I have an Academy a mile from the house and if I can't get it there I usually get it online. We have so many outdoor stores within 30 mins of here it isn't even funny.

The store in O'Fallon, IL, was open for about 2 years before this fiasco happened. There hasn't been any word locally about what they intend to do with this store. It has not re-opened since it was closed last year.

That's what I mean... we are flush with sporting goods stores, let alone gun-only shops. The only one I could see reopening would be the one in Sherman.

I have been a loyal customer of Cabela's for many years, and I find their website, pricing, and shipping to be great. That said, I buy my reloading supplies from Mom and Pop stores as much as possible. Personally I don't get into political boycotting.

The nearest to me would be a Cabellas in Portland. L L Bean is not worth it unless you want an overpriced long gun. Dicks in Bangor is not worth going to as of late. So a three plus hour ride one way to get something that is often slightly overpriced? No thanks. We live in a big box deprived state for sure and I do not think that it is such a problem at all.;) The several competitive LGS, or if they don't have something in stock or competitively priced, then on line I can get most of what I need.YMMV

I remember going to the original in Wilmot, WI, and got bargains once in a while. Don't know if our Peoria store will reopen but if it does and has the same pricing structure as before I won't be a patron.

I'm confused. So are the Gander Outdoors owned by Camping World and Gander Sports are former Gander Mountain stores that Camping World did not buy?
