I just fired a Springfield XDs in 45 Auto, and let me tell you, I would hate to put more then a few rounds down range.
I get to shoot a lot of guns, work related, and have found a few I really don;t care for. The XDs 45 has just been added to the list.
What guns have you found to be uncomfortable to shoot?

The XDS 45. I sold it. I shoot 10mm, 357 magnums and sigs and other 45's with no problem. The XDS 45 had more felt recoil and was more painful for me to shoot than any gun I've owned other than a Ruger 454 Casull I had for a short while.

I find the ultra lightweight "moon metal" j frames uncomfortable to shoot even with wadcutters. There are those who say those guns are for carrying not for shooting. All guns are for shooting AFAIC. I find it amusing that all these big he men that "condition" their hand (sounds like killing nerves to me) can't carry an extra 8 ounces or so. They find that burdensome.

I prefer steel j frames.

I flipped the XDs-45 I bought a few days after purchase. Found it absolutely brutal to shoot -- no fun at all. Grip texture and shape didn't work for me at all.

Had a Ruger LC9 that stunk. Too small for my hands and the crappiest, sproingy long trigger pull ever. Shoot a S&W 500. Once. Didn't need to continue for more pain (an arthritic wrist and a bad shoulder make any handgun over .44 mag not fun.

I agree with the lightweight J frames being miserable to shoot. I honestly feel like I've been whacked across the palm with a hammer handle every time I fire one.

The little LCP can be snappy as well, but nowhere near as obnoxious as the scandium framed S&W's.

A Charter Arms Bulldog in 44 Special that my father used to own. It was even worse with the Pachmyr grips!

Rossi switch barrel 22/20ga. I thought that with the 20ga barrel, the grandkids would have something fun to shoot. None of the kids would shoot it twice. A couple of us adults tried it, and none of us would shoot it twice either. Short barrel, lightweight, nasty recoil.

Didn't care for the 22. Heavy, clunky, not much fun.

It went away.

Smith and Wesson Scandium Framed Hand Grena.......errr I mean .357 J Frames. If anybody ever wears out one of those guns, my guess they could pummel you with their fists of steel.

I had an airweight but it kept pulling my pants pocket down and I thought it was fairly noticeable. I bought a 340PD and to say I was surprised is an understatement! Even standard velocity 38's are miserable to shoot with it. It feels like what I imagine holding onto an exploding jumbo firecracker must be like. The difference between the aluminum and scandium framed guns in comfort and controllability is remarkable. Talk about paying more and getting less!

I had a Kahr P45 that was pretty miserable as well. Strangely enough, I have fired the economy version of the same gun and I didn't think it was as bad. Maybe the checkering is different?

I shot my brothers XDs in 45 last week and I never would have thought anyone used to 45 (or .40 for that matter) would have found it unpleasant. I fully believe I could have fairly easily shot a couple hundred rounds with it and not experience any negative effects, especially with the extended mag.

Now I have a double tap defense derringer in 45 that I’ve never seen anyone shoot more than about 4 times in one session. The first shot is extremely painful and it only gets worse from there. One person described it as “feeling like you just got hit in the web of your hand with a ball peen hammer” and honestly that fairly accurate.

Ive also shot a Ruger 454 that would give the shakes pretty quick, a cylinders, maybe two but then the trembles set in.

The worst I’ve ever been hurt by a gun was shooting out the window of a truck and the shotgun was close to my elbow but the door frame of the truck was almost directly behind it which made my arm take ALL the recoil. Did a similar thing turkey hunting leaning back on a tree with the tree trunk directly behind my firing shoulder, that hurt to.

Never much cared for any XDs to shoot, though it was more trigger and balance.

You can put me in the don't care for ultralight .38s group. My Ruger LCR even with the hogue grips and standard .38s is not fun to shoot at all.

I'd rather shoot nuculear 10mm or magnums over thst any day.

Oh, and Ive still got a box or two of federal 12 gauge sabot slug 3 1/2 magnums that'll make my shoulder a massive bruise inside of 3 rounds out of a slug barrel. Accurate, but not worth it

What specific issues where you having with the recoil that was referably different then another sub compact .45?
Just personal curiosity, in case I ever decided to look at the XDs

FIE single shot 38 derringer, thing was brutal even with 148 wadcutters. Original owner had filed the front sight down, so it shot about a yard high at 3 yards. Had wanted it to load it with 38 snake shot as a tacklebox gun, but the CCI plastic shot loads wouldn't chamber......

Another vote for scandium frame s&w’s. Besides that the usual suspect hand cannons can be added to the list. 454 casull, 500 s&w, .......etc

Other then the gun digging into the web of my hand, the lower part of the back strap hit pretty hard into my palm. I posted a pic of the gun. It's the 3.3 barrel mod. I think that with the mag and grip extinction it wouldn't be so bad.
I have shot the Taurus 740 Slim and would have to say the XDs hurts more.

Gunny
I have an XDs 45 that’s my EDC. I also have a Kel Tec PF 9 that I got as my first gun and I use when I wear dress clothes and need a smaller gun. The XDs has a much nicer trigger than the PF9, the fit and finish is much nicer and and the recoil IMHO feels more like a push than the intense snap of the PF9. I also like the sights much more.

Of course both are brutal compared to a full sized M&P but for a small 45 I don’t think it’s bad. Maybe ignorance is bliss. Or I got used to the abuse. Or maybe we’re all different!

That said, I do like the M&P MUCH BETTER

Browning 22 that belongs to a friend. Shot it two different times and both times it cut me in the web of my hand.
