Which ones are the most accurate? Do you have a favorite among them?

I received the Savage Mark-II FVT yesterday, and it looks good, except for the crappy plastic stock. I put a GI web sling on it, and can see how the flex of the fore end is going to cause problems if I put any pressure on it using the sling. I will try to take it out Monday morning ( a trip to the Santa Fe Opera tonight, sleeping in late tomorrow, and church on Sunday preclude me from going to the range earlier). I will shoot it from a rest and sand bags Monday. I have 6-8 different standard velocity loads to try out.

I have already ordered a new Boyds At-One stock and new bottom metal for it. After installation I will then see if this old body can still shoot decently prone, kneeling, and off hand using the sling.

I have two questions, if I may. The first is, how well does the Henry AR-7 work for you? I've had four in the past, ranging from two Charter Arms versions and two built from leftover parts, and second, the Mossberg Blaze. I may be in the market for another .22 in the near future and want to know if either is worth it. I've had a love-hate thing with the AR-7 for decades now, and the Blaze simply intrigues me.

I used to have a Ruger American Rimfire in .22 and it was a great little rifle. I saw a crazy good deal on a closeout Anschutz 1416D HB at my local Cabela's around a year ago and couldn't let it pass. Sold the Ruger to make it work. It has the two stage Anschutz trigger (5098 IIRC) - best trigger I've felt on any firearm. I use it for informal paper punching at 25, 50 and 100 yds, and also do the occasional silhouette competition at my local range. .22's are a real challenge at longer distances (say 100yds) due to the less than spectacular ballistics. Fun and cheap though!
Our Club range is quite windy most of the time, so group-shooting .22LRs at 100 yards or more isn't productive. I'd never shot my benchrest rifles beyond 50 yards, mostly because great match ammo was expensive and the best lots were limited...besides, we never competed at 100 yards.

Ruger 10/22 with an EABCO fast-twist accuracy barrel, Fajen stock, and Volquartsen internals.

Mostly plinking, but also some small game.

How fast is the "fast-twist" compared with normal twist? What ammo takes best advantage of the faster twist?

According to their web site they make a 1-9 "fast twist" for sub sonic ammo. As you most likely know most .22 are 1-16 or 1-18.

Not sure what a 1in9 barrel would do to std or hv ammo. Can't believe it would be good.

my new Ruger Precision Rimfire is showing promise...working on acquiring more target grade ammo to test in it. Could be my favorite.

I have not shot the Henry much other than to adjust the sights when I first got it...didn't have any issues with it.

The Blaze has had thousands of rounds through it...mostly by the grandchildren...nice little rifle...they prefer it over the Rascal.

If I had to choose just between the Henry AR or Blaze I'd take the Blaze.

Thank you. I'll keep this in mind as I decide what to do.

It's a 1:9 twist; the standard 10/22 is 1:16. Primarily designed for stabilizing subsonic ammo through a can. That combination is, indeed, quiet! However, I'm still exploring what it likes best. It seems to do okay with standard velocity ammo, too. But as I noted in the "Prove It" thread, I've not done much with my .22s in recent years, giving most of my time to my centerfires.

My .22lr rifle is a Winchester 77/22 purchased in 1946. It was purchased for my fathers 15th birthday and I now have it. I even took it to a range and shot it a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry, I missed the "used for." It has the original iron sights and it is used for general plinking.

Sorry about quoting myself; however the post seems to be too old for me to edit it. I just wanted to add the picture.

Fully suppressed stainless 10/22 in laminated target model stock. For backyard pest control and keeping the kids occupied during sunny summer days, burning through brick after brick of assorted subsonics. I have a few others but none of them sees even remotely similar round counts as the 10/22.

Now if I only could find some cheap and durable reactive targets that don't go "ping!" when they're hit. The rifle is whisper quiet but the constant ping... ping... ping... pingpingpingpinging... gets on my nerves.

Can you get some of the polymer type targets over there?

Thanks for the tip, but none of them seems to be long-lived when the kids put up to a thousand rounds through them in a matter of days. Even hardened silhouette targets eventually get dented shapeless and currently I have a few old brake discs hanging from chains I've welded on them. I've tried printed paper targets too but once they figured out they could print their own we went through a fresh toner cartridge and a ream of paper in less than a week.

We have a problem.

I have a 10/22 haven't shot in several months and was very accurate 75 yards + with Magpul X stock ,Primary arms scope ,BX trigger . I got bored punching paper so sold the stock ,scope and all the extras but ended up keeping the rifle. I recently installed Trushot sights had on before the scope and ordered a Volquartsen extractor, auto bolt open and oversized trigger pins. First chance will get out and sight it in, the only problem being a lefty is hot casings hitting my arm .View attachment 794424
I installed the parts today, smoothed the edges where the bolt handle was rubbing and touched up with Birch Casey pen. I was ready to throw the rifle out trying to reinstall the bolt then remembered to let the handle slide forward a little and it popped right in.

That's why they're NOT touching my collectible Armi Jäger .22:s (spare parts can't be found anywhere) or even the GSG5. I have a bunch of 15-30 round mags for all of them and if they can load up to three times the amount of rounds per magazine at a time, I need to start buying .22 in crates instead of bricks...

I didn't get a chance to get to the range with the new Savage Mk-II FVT today, but the new stock and bottom metal arrived a day early. Went together without a hitch, trimming to accommodate the rear sight was a breeze with a scribe, coping saw, chisel, and file. I was able to torque the action screws to 16 in/lbs without the need to pillar bed, but if accuracy isn't there I will certainly try that. Barrel is free floating, a $10 bill slides smoothly between barrel and stock.

I have a breakfast meeting tomorrow, the 4th on Wednesday, so it will probably be Thursday at the earliest. It is too darn hot right now to consider going to the range after about 10 AM.

Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics:

That is one sweet lookin' rig you have there.

I have a number of .22 rifles. The plinker is a Savage repro of the old Stevens Favorite.
The two others that get shot more seriously are a FWB target gun that I use for smallbore prone and an Anschutz Biathlon rifle with a Fortner straight pull bolt. At my age, I am not skiing Biathlons so that gun gets used for smallbore prone also.
I recently picked up a 10-22 takedown. I added a pistol grip stock with a collapsible butt and changed the sights to apertures front and rear. It works nicely as away to practice shooting standing at 50 yards

Took the new Savage to the range today. Gusting winds made it impossible to tell if the rifle prefers one brand of ammo over another, but some 25 yard 5 round groups shot with the aperture sights could be covered with a quarter. I had one failure to fire with Federal Gold Medal, but it did fire a 2nd time around after rotation and did not open up the group. Firing pin strikes were strong, so there must have been a small amount of rim without priming compound. In addition to the various standard velocity loads (CCI, Fed, Aquila (2 types), Win T22) I also ran some cheap Remington Golden Bullet high velocity, and it digested this just fine and grouped almost as well as the other rounds.

This is going to be a fun rifle to play around with, looking forward to a day with either calm winds (ha!) or consistent winds (more likely) to see just how accurate it can be and to also try it out at 50 yards.
