Anyone have any feedback on Weatherby Vanguard S2?

No personal experience but can’t find much in the way of negative reports, either. Looking at one in 7mm08 myself.
 
I have one in 240wby. The action and trigger are great. The stock is mediocre. I used about a pound of jbweld in the forearm to stiffen it.
It is very accurate now.
 
I was strongly considering one in 30-06. Everything seemed quality. The stock just didn't fit me right. It didn't feel right when shouldering it. I ended up with a tikka 658 that I fell in love with at a gun show
 
I have a 30-06 and .243. My son and son-in-law have 30-06’s and my daughter has a .243. I’ve been very impressed with them.
 
I have had a three. The last was a 257 mag with wood. Never shot it. Too nice to bang off of a tree step. The other two were synthetic stocked blue guns. Both had good triggers. One was a 257 mag and the other a 223. The 223 was one of the most accurate guns that I have owned. It was boringly accurate. I could own another one.
 
I own one in .270win. It's one of my most accurate hunting rifles I've ever owned. I have a friend with two, both are very good shooters. My cousin owns one and it's shoots pretty good too so I feel confident in recommending the S2 to anyone.

I actually like the synthetic stock on mine. It feels good and fits me well. The trigger has a nice break and is plenty light for a hunting rig and the bolt runs smooth.

No complaint from me.
 
I've owned a few of the original Vanguards. They are well put together and a lot of quality for the money. The S2 is a slightly modified version with a 3 position safety vs 2 position on the original. By all accounts the S2 comes with a little better trigger too.

My only complaint is that they tend to be at least 1 lb heavier than most of the competition. And as much as 2 lbs heavier than many. Once scoped they are just more weight than I'd want to carry in 308, or even 30-06 cartridges, at least the way I hunt. I'd imagine the weight would be welcome in a 375.

Were it anything besides a .270 id keep it i think, but the guy likes the caliber and can use a nice rifle.

that's really the only thing i don't like about weatherbys there stocks with there high butt stocks.
 
Yes. I had an S1 in 243 that went in a good trade and I have an S2 in 308 that I wish was a little lighter. An excellent rifle made by Howa. Smooth, accurate (at least some of the S2 come with sub MOA gauranty). Rather heavier than say a comparable Tikka. Stocks are better than the S1 which were a bit flexy, but in .375 H&H, you're not after a target rifle anyway. No iron sights available. Weatherby customer service is stellar. I have never had an issue with a rifle but have needed parts for an older Weatherby shotgun and they have been great. Also, not really part of the equation, but Weatheeby have moved from CA to WY, so no part of your purchase price will be used to promote Socialism, coddle illegal aliens, or fund nuisance lawsuits against fossil fuel companies.

Oh, and in the FWIW column, at $600 for that rifle, all of this is superfluous. Snaffle it up.
 
I have had two of the S2 Vanduards. One in 243 win, and one in 300 wby. Both are well built and have good triggers. With hand loads both would hold under 1 inch at 100 yds in a 3 shot group. Even better with tuning the ammo but for hunting rigs there wasn't much need. That being said shoulder one and see if they fit you well. Just so happens they fit me great but I know that won't be the case for everyone. I would strongly recommend these rifles. Hardy and build to give years of use.
 
Currently have one - a 243. Accuracy is excellent with the handloads. Sold off a 7mm-08 a while back that also shot sub-moa consistently with hand loads. Had one in 308 that I sold off when I got my Tikka T3 308. It too, shot sub MOA all day long.
They are a bit heavier than other similar rifles and the stocks are a bit thicker around the wrist on the standard S2. Good gun for the money in my book.
 
Long Story short if one selling point to you is the MOA guarantee that they offer, it's not worth the paper it's wrote on. Because with my personal experience and rifle Weatherby DID NOT stand behind the guarantee.

I wouldn't mind hearing the long version of that, I've never used anyone's "moa guarantee". Haven't heard of anyone else's experience either.
