Tx hog hunt

That’s quite a fairway! But you need to fire your groundskeeper.

I’m seeing that rifle is a Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 is that right? What’s the ammo you’re going to take? If it’s the wolf, what bullet? I’m curious because I’ve recently built two AR47’s. One for me, one for my girlfriend to take her pig hunting (she’s super excited). So if you happen to harvest some pigs, could you please follow up on the bullet choice and how it performed? I think MGgunner uses Wolf in his SKS with good success. But I don’t remember if it’s the 123gr or 154gr SP.

Oh that's good to know.
Its close to Gruene too. That's where I'm headed.
I have already talked to them. They have openings daily.
I confirmed my zero today on the little ranch rifle.
The farm boss said shots could be out to 100yds but 35yds were more likely.View attachment 829763

25-35 yards walking up in the brush mainly and you need to be quick. That Ranch Rifle is the ticket. Blind hunting at night, 50 - 80 yards, but sometimes absurdly close. Just make sure it's a hog you're shooting and not one of their $10k pet elk!

There's a bodega at the main crossroads in Waelder, at the back of which is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. Worth a stop.

Is Independence Ranch the one that has a gut and quarter of $50 per hog up to 50 lbs and $1 per pound over that?

As I recall, it has a virtually incomprehensible pricing structure but it's cheaper than most. Basically, there are different "packages" and one of them allows unlimited piglets (sub 50 lbs) and like 2 hogs under 150 lbs and then a fee per pound thereafter. It's all on the website if you can make heads or tails of it.

Independence Ranch is the place that offers free hunts that aren't free. He will tell you they aren't free because nothing in the fine print says it is free, yet here is a current page with FREE in the address and FREE written several times on the page.

Here is a video where he offers free hunts...

Here is where he says it isn't free at all and that basically people need a reality check...See about 10:55

God help you if you get injured at IR because this jerk is going to make a video about it before coming to help and even then is about as prepared to offer medical aid as my 12 year old sheep dog.

Yes, the website says all processing MUST be done by their staff.
$1/lb ...50lb minimum.

Sounds like a deal to me, you’ll spend more than that getting there.

It seems to me that there's some bad blood?
I admit the website looks a bit, I dunno, sensational?
Anyway I'm planning to check it out, a couple of THR guys said they've been there.
If you have a better idea, I'm like dumbo....all ears.

My brother uses his Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 using 154 gr sp, took down a 183 hog @ 50 yards, shattered the shoulder/upper leg and got lungs, hog dropped in 30 yards.

I see they have loaner guns. I might be tempted to stay an extra day on my next business trip to Austin or San Antonio.

I don't have any experience with them but there is a lot on Texas hunting forums written about them. It might be worth your time to look at them. Texas Bowhunters Forum and Texas Hunting Forum in particular.

Those piglets are $50 each to clean remember.

Bad blood? Not at all. Why would you assume there is bad blood when all I was doing is documenting lies and negligence in a medical emergency, trying to protect you from being cheated and trying to keep you safe?

154 grain SP, Wolf or other Russian brand, all the same. It gives me 2.5 MOA in my SKS (as good as that gun gets, normally 3MOA) and 2200 fps. A hit on the shoulder will drop them post haste and gives an exit hole in every one I've shot so far. I haven'seen anything much over 250 lbs, but I'm sure this load will work on ANY hog. :D

I wish you luck and good hunting. That was one of my bucket list things to do but my little anaphylactic shock trauma a few years back pretty much curtailed most adventures. My kids built me a tower with a staircase so I can still hunt deer on our little patch. I even have a 308 Ruger Frontier that was just made for hogs. It will go on the block soon.

Yeah, my box blind is my fall back. :D I'm lucky in that I get a pig out of it now and then.

I've heard of negative stories there, but in fairness that hunter who died may have shot himself while getting out of a stand.

One nice thing when I hunted there is they provide meals, which often include wild hog meat.
