is LEGAL in TX as long as you're not on a public road.

I was talking to an outfitter and this is one of the hog hunts they offer. It kind of took me by surprise and I thought it would be interesting to see what the board thinks of it.

Again, it's perfectly legal since it's not on a public road and hogs are not considered game animals in TX.

My understanding is that these hogs are feral animals, and the ideal situation would be that they all be shot and used for food. If that's right, then use a spotlight and take aim, I'd say.

I don't live in texas, of course; is my understanding wrong?

(Now there does arise the question of why someone would PAY to do this, when it sounds like it might as well be subcontracted to the local butcher)

I know where my ammo is...Let's go!

I've done this a bunch. I built a rack with a swivel chair on the bakc of my Jeep, use it to spotlight hogs and call varmints.

Really don't even need the "food" qualifier in that statement. JMHO

I'm for both the "Fair" hunt and spotlighting

These boogers are pretty prolific and depending on the numbers in the area I'd do a little spotlighting too. Heck we even trap the piggies and then take 'em out. Since they are food, I say get as much food as that fridge will hold. We certainly aren't hurting for numbers around here...

I have a buddy that lives in Spring, TX. He told me that spot lighting hogs is one of the most fun hunting experiences he has ever had. I'd sure like to try it sometime !

I'm in ....when we going?

Smoke - you have a swivel chair? I dunno , that's pretty fancy. I have that " I was gonna get out of the truck anyway" - FALL - down pretty pat myself. :D

Doncha hate it when the Q Beam cord is too short...they ain't rated for 170 #'s either....

When even the guys who write the rules (Texas Parks & Wildlife) say "any means or method", that, to me, clarifies that "fair chase" is not a consideration. For the present, however, they still appear to be prohibiting feral hog hunting at night on most, if not all, of their public lands ...

Greybeard,

I think that's to cut down on the wardens' workload. My guess is that they pay a bit more attention to the public land and figure that the landowners will police the private leases to some extent.
