My LGS has a Facebook page on which they post specials, new arrivals, and the like. Checking over FB with my morning coffee, I saw that they had a CZ 75D Compact (CZ's current name for the PCR) in stock. Knowing how fast these can fly off the shelf, I was a little dismayed to see that the post was two hours old, but I called anyway, and sweet relief they still had it! Well, now they don't.

I traded in my M&P Shield 9mm to defray part of the cost. I bought the Shield back in California in 2014, because it was what I could afford at the time and rumors were circulating that the Shield was going off of California's approved handgun list. But I've never come to love my Shield, partly because I never shot it particularly well, even after taking pains to make sure I had a proper grip and trigger control. I also don't appreciate much the fact that the Shield has been bleeding value ever since I bought it (thanks a lot, PSA!). I know such things don't matter to some shooters, but I like firearms that can hold their value (or even appreciate).

On the other hand, I have been a CZ fan boy since I bought my first pistol, a CZ 83. I had held compact 75s at gun shops and loved the way they fit my hand, and I had shot full-sized 75s at the range. I'm no shooting expert by any stretch, but I think that part of the reason why I have shot the 75 better than the Shield is the 75's slightly longer reach to the trigger. The extra distance puts my index finger pad right on the trigger, whereas on the Shield I could easily reach the first joint on my index finger and had to make a conscious effort to avoid that.

Anyways, I am super stoked to finally own my dream pistol, and I doubt that I will miss my Shield all that much!

The only thing the shield has going for it over the pcr is the size for ease of concealment. The pcr is a superior weapon in every other way and it’s not even close. I doubt you’ll even remember your shield once you start shooting your new Cz.

The Shield as part of the S&W MP series is a cost effective tool. I don't see weapons as an art form or the requirement to be pleasing to the eye, as functionality as a beauty all of its own. At often quoted self-defense distances the Shield is accurate enough, should the shooter do their part. The Glock is not pleasing to the eye either but extensively used by law enforcement and militaries around the world.

The CZ PCR's are no slouch when it comes to either accuracy or reliability. The beauty of functionality is certainly there. And have been used by law enforcement.

Interestingly, CZ's website still describes the PCR as having a 14-round capacity. As you can see in my original post, my pistol shipped with two 15-round magazines, which can be distinguished by the plastic floor plate compared to the older flat metal floor plates. The two magazines are both stamped '15' at the lowest hole. Curiously, though, only one of the two magazines can easily fit 15 rounds; the other will only accept 14.

Technically, I have a CZ 75D. In actuality it's a P01 but was from a run stamped with 75D on the slide. I believe @bannockburn came from the same batch as his slide is marked similarly.

Either way, they're fantastic shooters. Fell in love with my 75SA, and tried a P07 and sold it off to buy a P01 and threw some TruGlo TFO's on which I highly recommend.

Congratulations, on buying the best CCW pistol out there! I daily carry mine and it's about as close to perfect CCW piece as can be. The light alloy frame, 14+1 capacity and SA/DA, can't be beat! Comparing to a Glock 26 with a 12 round mag, the weight is pretty similar between the two. About the perfect compromise between size/concealment, capacity and control-ability.

I wanted to get my PCR as thin as possible so I purchased the CZ custom shop aluminum grip panels and they are really nice for conceal-ability.

That's interesting all my magazines and my other 8 Mec-Gar magazines came with the 14 round capacity and the metal bottom. I found that the Beretta 92/96 plastic floorplates fit the bottom of the mags perfectly and line up with the grip great. Problem is I had to spend $70 for my 10 mags to retrofit what should have came from the factory. Looks as if CZ figured that out and fixed the horrible metal bottom mag that was not comfortable.

If you look at this link at photos 5 and 6 you'll see the old type of floorplate (photo 5) and with the Beretta 92/96 floorplates my magazines look similar to photo 6.

The shiny Mec-Gars (flat-base) I ordered have 14-round capacity.

The factory mags (CZ-marked) I got with the gun, and some I ordered from Midway or TGS, with the blue followers, are 15-rounders. Hmm ...

I remember reading somewhere that the P01s marked as CZ 75D Compact were supposed to be for the European market but got shipped to the U.S. to fill orders from CZ USA.

Awesome gun, congrats!

It is a very fine balance of concealability, shootability, weight, comfort, and looks. It'll cost you though, that's the only downside to owning a CZ. They always multiply.

Frogfurr, those are some sweeeeeet grips!

This one IS the cost of buying a CZ! First one was an 83 (passed along to a family member), that's a 550 FS in my avatar, and I also have a 620 field. The addiction is real! ;)
