Been thinking about selling a few hunting rifles and condensing the safes a little. One of the rifles I’m thinking of getting rid of is a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS. It’s a nice rifle and is one of the FN produced, newer models, I just don’t shoot it much or carry it into the woods as much as I thought it would. I honestly don’t remember what I paid for it. Looking around it seems like these rifles sell for $1000 and $1100 new. Is $800 too much to expect for a used rifle in excellent condition.

There a 3006 up by my dads, it has the older black stock in like new shape. I think there asking $850 but think I could get it for $800. If I had the money I would have picked it up.

What's yours chambered in. And is it scoped.

What caliber? As long as it's in the 243 Win to 30-06 mainstream and if it's in tip-top shape and takes good photos, and if you are patient on Gunbroker, it will sell. $750 would move quicker. If it's a left -handed 416 Remington mag with a beat up receiver and missing front sight, I have no idea ;-)

I'm always sorry to see a decent firearms move on, even for good reason, so commiserations and best of luck.

Bud’s Guns in Sevierville Tennessee had one on the wall last month, pre-owned, unfired, 300 Win Mag, for $899. Cabela’s gun library in Houston has one hanging on the wall right now in 7mm Magnum for $799, also pre-owned. The one at Bud’s is gone, I bought it. I think MSRP is $1379. I phoned Winchester customer service, both serial numbers came back made in 2018. Hope that helps.

My rule of thumb is that most used guns are worth 50%-75% of what a comparable new gun sells for. Whether it is closer to 50% or 75% depends on a lot of factors. In this case I think 75% is probably fair. Buds gunshop lists them from $972 up to $1077 depending on caliber. 75% of that is $729-$807.

You could ask $850-$900 and may well get a buyer. But knowing I could get a new one under $1000 I wouldn't buy at that price. But not everyone knows that.

Just remember, at $875 there might be one buyer somewhere. At $650 there are buyers everywhere. The question only you can answer is how fast you want to sell it, and how many tire kickers you want to put up with. Do you want to wait out for top dollar or sell it quick?

I was selling a Model 99 Savage in .300 Savage. The one everyone says the want. It was made in 1951 and in nearly new condition. I was asking $600 which was a fair price for the condition. I listed it here and 24 Hour Campfire, which has a lot of Savage followers.

I must have had twenty guys that wanted pictures and descriptions. Picture of the receiver. Then the muzzle crown. Then the stock, etc., etc. over and over and over. I had so many that, after a while I quit responding. So, then I was a scammer. Finally sold it to a friend for $450 just so it would go away.

My wife and I go out to dinner at a nice restaurant and spend $100. It wasn’t worth the aggravation after a while. For a lot of guys, their end game is being able to brag about the great deal they got more than the gun itself. Life’s too short for bull crap games.

If it was anything other than a .270 I would have made you an offer.

To me, the .270 is the Dodge Caravan of rifle cartridges.
Lol. The most over rated cartridge ever. Never has won a major competition. No serious advantage in ballistics over any other cartridge. Barely flatter and faster shooting than a 30-06 with less power and accuracy but made popular by a paid Winchester salesman, O'Conner. A good hunting cartridge but not what it is claimed to be.

Mine has the black stock. I think that is what they were originally introduced with. I’m going to keep the Burris Veracity that is sitting on top of it.

That’s precisely how I feel about 30-06.

And exactly how I feel about the .308.... snoozarific in all regards.

I'm rather fond of .30-06 though, and I even kind of like its weird little brother the .270.

OP, I'd put it up at $800 and see what kind of response you get, I bought one several years ago in .30-06. Don't exactly remember what I paid, but it was in the $750-$800 range.

Also, I'd post it up at 24hourcampfire if you're a member, those classifieds are much more active than on this site.

And no matter how inherently accurate a cartridge is based off of bullet BC etc, the rifle is the deciding factor. Your M70 is not a target rifle. It’s a lightweight hunting rifle. And a damn fine one at that. I just bought one a month or so in 338WM for $600 in almost new condition. If it wasn’t almost Christmas, I’d own that 270 in a heartbeat for what I paid for mine.

Ya 800 should be easy to get, like others if I had money I'd make a good offer lol. 270 is not my favorite but don't mind it. I like 3006 but for some reason I am cursed when shooting game.

side note, who made the old black ew stocks.
