Don't understand the MIM phobia. Having worked with it, I've come to prefer it.
Seriously, look at it this way ... Buy a 9mm RIA 1911 and with money you save on ammo each year, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUY A 1911 OF YOUR CHOICE EVERY FEW YEARS.probably still go with the RIA ... I might get the GI with the better sights though, because those sights were awfully tiny...

After 25 years of shooting and reloading 600,000+ rounds (not counting 22LR) and expending over $175,000, when wife gave me a surprised look, I told her, "But honey, I saved us like over $150,000 had I bought factory ammo".Why do I think this is something people tell their spouses?
Check out the new RIA 1911s and ones produced in recent years and you will find that slide to frame fit is tighter than many higher dollar 1911s and just as reliable.I have the RIA government model (about 20 years old) that is a great .45. Loose fitting as all heck, but reliable.
GSG 1911 is a great 22LR 1911 (German made, same as Sig 1911 22LR) and has been very reliable for me with various ammo.As I reload 9mm, that's what I went with. Yes, it's heavy for a single stack 9mm pistol. It also has very pleasant recoil, is extremely accurate, and is a wonderful gun to move new shooters up to after .22LR
1911 in 9mm? That’s like a 1976 Mustang II with a 6 cylinder turd motor. Hell’s Bells get it in .45 acp and reload for that. If you want to shoot 9mm get one of those plastic Glock things. Oh the humanity!
You can get a RIA 1911 in .38 Super and swap the barrel with 9mm barrel.I was thinking of either a 38 Super or 9mm to add to the collection.
A .38 super barrel can be swapped out with a 9mm barrel? Guessing mags will need to be swapped as well. Wonder if this option would work with my Taurus 1911 9mm.You can get a RIA 1911 in .38 Super and swap the barrel with 9mm barrel.
I am thinking about doing just that if I can't find a viable 9mm slide/barrel for my Sig 1911.
No, more like a old Datsun 240Z, or a 600cc sport bike vs a liter class sport bike. That’s like a 1976 Mustang II with a 6 cylinder turd motor.
I have had good results with Brownells brand 9mm 1911 10 round mags, and these as well

$15 for the Zeniths. (10 round mags)

If I remember correctly a 1976 Mustang II was a turd no matter what factory motor you got it with
