OK -- I'm casually looking for a 9mm and, of course, I come across an interesting 1911:) made in the Philippines.

Does anyone have experience with the Rock Island Armory 1911s? They look like a good solid mil-spec 1911. And they are pretty inexpensive.

If I get one, it will be to use as a Hardball gun to get me into NRA Bullseye shooting.

Any opinions welcome!

I have heard some good things about RIAs but for $100 more you can get a Springfield mil-spec (regular) that is a way nicer gun. Better sights, tighter finish and a life time warranty.

I just picked up a SA mil-spec (non WWII) for $395. You cant believe how nice a gun this is.

If you're planning on modifying it, buy the RIA. If you're one of the few people that's happy with a stock 1911, buy the Springfield.

Personally, I don't feel the Springfield is worth the extra $$ if all you're gonna use is the frame and slide.

I went to may local dealer this afternoon to buy a RIA, but he was sold out. Guess I'll have to wait until next week. :(
