I recently bought a handgun off of GB that isn't on the "DOJ Roster" here in CA. Within an hour of the auction ending with my winning bid in place the seller called me from Kentucky and inquired about my exemption that allows me to purchase the gun in CA. I stated LEO (30th year and counting) and the seller immediately thanked me and confirmed my receiving FFL info. A few days later I was filling out my paperwork and I was shooting the gun last week. I found the seller handled the transaction so professionally that I regularly check their listings and I truly hope to buy from them again.
That was a seller who chose to do business in CA, took the steps to register as a commercial seller with the DOJ, understood the myriad of asinine rules, regulations and laws here (Always enacted to protect the children!) and completed the sale. This was all 100% his choice to do, as he saw a market there for his wares.
It was his choice to say no to my sale, or to close off selling to a CA resident at all. I had that happen before when an auction was won by me, but I only bid because the seller did not specify "No CA Sales" in their auction language. In that case, the seller wasn't one of those who chose to jump through the hoops, so the seller cancelled it. The end result was no harm, no foul. I didn't lose anything, in fact the seller probably lost a listing fee, but the seller learned the lesson to specify "No Ca Sales" for the next ones listed so they wouldn't have to go through this again. Again, it was his choice not to jump through the seller's hoops, so I then placed my bids and sent my money elsewhere.
NY, MA, CT, NJ, IL and a few others purposely enacted the same types of laws CA did...certainly not to make anyone safer (They haven't) but to make gun ownership so onerous people quit trying to become one... and someday we all die out. Then fairies will wrap the Maypole with pixies, unicorns and lions will drink from strawberry soda streams and rainbow hues will color the eyes of all who live in the new liberal nirvana.
And just a friendly point of order; the capitalization of select words isn't making the point any more valid or important. Rather it detracts from the message and makes any message look much less legitimate. Just a suggestion...from someone who also has been there, done that and has plenty of surgery scars and IOD forms on file with three different agencies to prove it.
Stay safe.
