Why do people hate shipping to New York so much?

Contiguous states can sell to others in that title,in other words I can legally go to ANY gun shop in Pa. or Vt. and buy and leave with any rifle or shotgun,as long as that gun is legal in NYS.

The contiguous state thing went away a long time ago, as long as the gun is legal in both states, you could do it in TX, VA or any other state.

From my perspective, the issue with NY is how fast they can spit out a new regulations and the potential for dealers and gun smiths to be caught up in changes that could render over night some firearms or magazines to be illegal. Without a grandfather clause, what were they to do? Send them back to the owners.... illegal. Send them back to the sellers.... illegal. The guns could no longer be legally transferred.... but you better believe the affected parties wanted either their guns or money back.

I won an auction on Gunbroker not to long ago, the seller lived in Washington state. Now Wash. isn't exactly the conservative mecca of the US, but he shipped it to a local FFL, a retired conservation officer, and everything was as smooth as silk. I live in the central N.Y. area and probably not done this if I lived in NYC. Just keep in mind that there is two NYs, upstate and NYC, which is why Cuomo keeps getting reelected.

I understand what you mean. For those that have never been through the northern part of New York State, think “remote Wisconsin, Canada, etc”.

Problem is, gun laws apply to you just like Manhattan. Again, if I directly ship 30 round magazines to you, I’m a felon even though they’re perfectly legal here. And there’s no way I can keep up with your laws just to sell a few dollars worth of stuff

I recently bought a handgun off of GB that isn't on the "DOJ Roster" here in CA. Within an hour of the auction ending with my winning bid in place the seller called me from Kentucky and inquired about my exemption that allows me to purchase the gun in CA. I stated LEO (30th year and counting) and the seller immediately thanked me and confirmed my receiving FFL info. A few days later I was filling out my paperwork and I was shooting the gun last week. I found the seller handled the transaction so professionally that I regularly check their listings and I truly hope to buy from them again.

That was a seller who chose to do business in CA, took the steps to register as a commercial seller with the DOJ, understood the myriad of asinine rules, regulations and laws here (Always enacted to protect the children!) and completed the sale. This was all 100% his choice to do, as he saw a market there for his wares.

It was his choice to say no to my sale, or to close off selling to a CA resident at all. I had that happen before when an auction was won by me, but I only bid because the seller did not specify "No CA Sales" in their auction language. In that case, the seller wasn't one of those who chose to jump through the hoops, so the seller cancelled it. The end result was no harm, no foul. I didn't lose anything, in fact the seller probably lost a listing fee, but the seller learned the lesson to specify "No Ca Sales" for the next ones listed so they wouldn't have to go through this again. Again, it was his choice not to jump through the seller's hoops, so I then placed my bids and sent my money elsewhere.

NY, MA, CT, NJ, IL and a few others purposely enacted the same types of laws CA did...certainly not to make anyone safer (They haven't) but to make gun ownership so onerous people quit trying to become one... and someday we all die out. Then fairies will wrap the Maypole with pixies, unicorns and lions will drink from strawberry soda streams and rainbow hues will color the eyes of all who live in the new liberal nirvana.

And just a friendly point of order; the capitalization of select words isn't making the point any more valid or important. Rather it detracts from the message and makes any message look much less legitimate. Just a suggestion...from someone who also has been there, done that and has plenty of surgery scars and IOD forms on file with three different agencies to prove it.

Stay safe.

I can’t believe this has gone on for 80 posts,,, You all need to go back to work, and get off the internet.
Retired, but went fishing for a few hour this morning - much better than working or goofing around on the internet. Quieter and more peaceful too.;)
But just to keep this gun related, while fishing, I was carrying a little 32 H&R as my "kit gun.":D

I've been keeping quite on this one, upstate New York's wish the city would detach and float away bringing the problems it's caused with it. N.Y. Was ones a proud gun state. Mostly of farmer, with rich hunting history, and gun manufacturing. It still for the size has some of the most public land, but can't enjoy as much anymore.

Not really.

See there is a law called the Sullivan Act,that was passed back in about the 1911 to stop the "low rent" crowd from possessing weapons.

That 'act' has no effect on the state laws.

As a simple example, you can easily get a CCW permit anywhere OUTSIDE of new York city [ I was born there, left at 25 yr's old ].

Sadly, much of the nation actually thinks of NY,as just the 1/50 th that is the city.

Look at a map and find the actual city, makes a huge difference.

I, too, could easily have been a felon in NY for conspiring to send an large capacity magazine to a buyer. The buyer had purchased a rifle that was fully legal in NY from me in GA. As I was packing it for shipment I found a extra, very large capacity mag and put it in the box along with the rifle and the other mags. The NY FFL of course caught it and very quietly sent it back to me. He could have called the LEOs.

And now we find out that for a few dollars the Governor of NY wants to extract income tax from the health care workers who came from out of state to assist with the Wuhan Flu.

I don't hate New Yorkers, but I hate doing business there.

That's an interesting question. Suppose he had called the LEO's. Could NY law enforcement do anything about it?

IF the LEO and the DAs REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to make an example of me, they could have filed charges against me and my buyer for conspiracy to bring the illegal sized magazine into the state. They then could have asked GA to extradite me. None of this is LIKELY to happen. Doesn't mean a DA with a burr under his blanket couldn't have pursued it. Add to this the perfect storm of trying to make a political point against selling firearms on-line.

Has it happened to others. Yes. Jay Wallace is an FFL and owns a gun store in GA, a rather large gun store. NYC Mayor (Bloomberg) sent moles to Jay's store who purposefully committed straw-man purchases. Then NYC filed a suit in Federal court against Jay having to do with his contributing to the crime in NYC, because he allowed the straw sales. It was purely a political statement that cost Jay millions of $ to fight. In the end, because it was all based in NYC courts, Jay didn't stand a chance and had to finally settle. So if "they" get it in their head to make an example of you they can.

Because it's generally looked at as a freedom hating slave state.

Not that everyone, or even most people outside NYC are freedom hating anti capitalist statists, but NYC basically controls the state. Just like Chicago controls Illinois. I feel bad for the good people living in those states. Hang in there! Or get out if possible to a free state.
