Savage 99 chambered in .300 savage

My friend sold me this gun for dirt cheap when I took a look I was shocked to see the price value online. He said he didn't know much about but it was just gifted down to him. I snagged it right away

It came with a very nice leather case. The gun has MODEL SAVAGE located on it along with .300 savage. Caliber.
It also came with a leather strap for the gun so I think this thing has seen some action.

The gun has minor defects slight scratch on stock and other then that it seems to of held up 100 times better then my spanish war single shot shotgun...

I didn't want to blow the screen up with pics but check it out. I heard they are worth 1k? but who knows people say **** all the time.

The Spanish used shotguns in War??? I thought that we Americans were the only Nations that did that until quite recently...

Condition and rarity will dictate value on a collector-grade grade gun, and that one is fairly common and in decent, though not high, condition.

I think a grand is a bit much for that one, $750 is probably more realistic. Its in that kind of limbo where a hard core Model 99 collector probably already has a nicer one and a shooter is likely to be turned off by the expensive and increasingly hard to aquire ammunition.

Still, its a nice example of a great, classic hunting rifle and they are a joy to shoot. Nice score, enjoy!

This might be a NorthEast thing but I've seen Savage 99s going around the $450-$500 range around here. They are great rifles. My Dad hunted with his 99 in 300 Savage. When he passed I got his rifle. I still use it to hunt today. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

That's a nice Savage. I agree with Nightlord that $1000 is steep. Lots of 99s were tapped for scope mounts. Yours isn't which adds value to me although may not made a difference to someone who wanted to hunt with it. A dealer at the last gun show I attended had 10 Savage 99s in .300 and .308. $450 for your choice. If you like it then the price is right.

On a local gun site a 1952 99 in 300 is currently going for on $699. It’s in very good shape.

That's quite a nice rifle. The bluing appears to be in good shape, stock is easily touched up. Schnabel forend, cartridge counter. You need to date it from the lever boss code. Can't tell whether it's a lever safety or tang safety.

Without further information, I'd say a patient sale in the $650 area is possible. The thousand dollar plus rifles tend to be pre-war, fancy grade, take-downs, and more likely chambered in 250-3000.
