I have a savage 99, made in the mid 1955s, very good conditon , in 300 savage. Leopuld 2-7 on it.

I was wondering what this gun should group at 100 yards with 150 rem. ammo?

what about 200 yards

what is the max range of this gun/ammo

I am not trying to target shoot, but I would like to get the most out of this gun for hunting. Also I killed a nice deer with it last year, but due to time, I wasnt able to sight the gun to the max. thanks for the help, any input appreicated

My dad has two. One that is his that he bought in the '60's and one that was my grandfather's. It was bought in the late 1920's. Both of them are very accurate and will group under an inch with the right ammo and enough luck. I would say that yours should do under two inches at 100 yards.
The .300 Savage is just under the .308 as far as power goes. I wouldn't be afraid to try a 300 yard shot with one if I were a good enough marksman to attempt that kind of shot (I'm not).
I saw my dad hit a deer through the neck with his at nearly 400 yards (paced out). I definitely wouldn't have taken that shot but my dad is a very good marksman and he knew he would make it. He has been using the same gun for nearly 40 years and it is his only rifle, so that plays a big part.

To add to your replies:
Mine is a 308win, 99A, about a 1974 vintage. It shoots 3 shots into 3/4" at 100 yards with my handloads using IMR-3031 and 150gr Hornaday spire points. Use to use it for hunters sillouette, zeroed at 200yards, hold at the top of the 500m ram's horns and behind the leg I could shoot 5 out of 10. I don't remember how it grouped at 200 yards. But it did kill a coues deer at 625 yards downhill;)

Mine will do 3" at 100 if I do my part, using the old semi Buckhorns.

I bet I could get it down to MOA if I had better eyes or a better sighting system. I might break down and drop the ~$130 on a Marbles rear peep sight one of these days. I bet that would help a little.

Mine was made in the 20's (I think) and was left to me by my grandfather.

99s are great rifles.
