I've been tinkering away on a couple of projects I started a few months ago, and I was actually in a position to complete the gun part of my switch barrel Ruger American build. All I need are the .264wm barrel, .458wm barrel, and some extra barrel nuts.

Well friend of mine asked me to check some stuff on europtic, and if I'm gonna be on the sight anyway, might as well see if they have Christensen Rangers in stock.
They thankfully didn't. What I did run across was a Christensen Carbon barrel in 6.5 Creed more for 500 bucks.
Still, nothing without an action, so I ignored it.
Till I found a 700p barreled receiver in .308 for 599. Now it makes little sense to for me to buy a complete barreled receiver when I'm going to replace the tube and trigger anyway (tho it DID come with a 40x trigger.). Except that i have a friend who really wants to try the .300 PRC (yes it really IS a friend, tho my interest is piggy backing in this as well), and already has a Sendero.
So I'll ream out the 5r .308 barrel, and install it and the 40x trigger on his rifle. Move his Xmark to his old .270 that has gone bang on its own more than once (and still hasn't shot anyone), and all parts will be in use, and unlikeliest to grow another gun.

Irationalization complete, I ordered the barel and 700p.

Then the stock hunt began. I had originally intended to buy a h&s take off with bdl bottom metal, but @troy fairweather offered me his B&C M40, which I actually prefer, for a good price.
I didn't have bottom metal, so was gonna order some, when I realized I still have the magpul Hunter kit off my other 700, that's on the mainland right now.
I also ordered a trigger tech independence trigger.....that feels basically like a primary.
Added an eabco .225 recoil lug, and EGW 20moa rail rounded out the parts list.

Well that was week before last. Yesterday most of it showed up, so I started work.
Removed and stashed the 40x trigger, and then spent a couple hours trying to get the 308 barrel out without banging it up too bad.
Ended up leaving aluminum smears, and a couple small dings on it, but got it off otherwise unscathed. Obviously I still haven't built myself a new barrel/action wrench.

Got everything assembled and head spaced, the stock inleted for the magpul Hunter AI mag well, and mounted.
I'm still missing the rail. I also didnt realize till I was trying to assemble it, that the action didn't come with screws.
I cobbled it the rest of the way together with spares "Remington" mounts, and a screw out of my other, other, 700.

Anyway it's not done yet, but I want to shoot it before doing a bunch more work. If it does well, I'll ignore some of it lol.
I did screw the tube in (which was tighter than stock) till it stopped sans recoil lug, and gave the barreled action a "roll" test. IE u just roll it back and forth, and watch for a wobble. Not very scientific, but it's pretty easy to pick up a slight variation in rotation when rolling a round tube back and forth, or aroundish as barreled actions do. Didn't see anything, but again not a real test.

So anyway, guns assembled, and ready to go this weekend.... unfortunately the scope i wanted to use is on its way back to the factory, and I've got a cheap Sig Whiskey3 on it for now.

Pictures are kinda random.......

Nice looking rifle! Can't wait to hear how she shoots.

Still looking forward to the switch barrel Ruger American!

I don't know how many times I was saving for a new rifle and a different rifle showed up yelling at me! Take me home!!

Anyone else have that problem?:)

Thanks guys!

Should actually have an idea pretty soon, I cased up all of those rifles last night, so I can take them to the range tomorrow and zero/confirm zero, before shooting with my buddies this weekend. The 300prc guy is contemplating dropping a couple of grand on a new rifle if he likes it (or may just do it, well see), and wanted to try some different styles before committing.
I'd probably have taken longer to actually assemble the carbon 6.5 otherwise.

Truth be told, Im pretty sure the number of rifles that kinda just followed me home, waaaaayyyy exceeds the number of rifles I've ordered, or went to the store to buy, and actually came home with.

Oh no scope weight.

Ya it looks good, I've always like the b&c stocks, tho there creeping up to the hs price range.

I'd say yours is a good 2 pounds lighter then mine was with that stock. 9.5 pounds is very manageable with that type of rifle.

I've only gone to the store to buy one rifle. Every other time I was getting a tool, ammo, etc.
Depending on your scope. That will be the perfect weight. I like about 8.75-9.75 for a loaded, scoped rifle.

I think total weights gonna be around 10lbs. The scope that's on there is light (13oz), but the mounts are chunky and some sort of steel alloy, so probably 4-6oz themselves. I'm either going with a Burris Veracity, or the Argos HMR off the .300, but for this weekend little sig, and crappy mounts it is.

Yeah the stock shape feels really nice. It's what I invision a "varmint" stock to be. I may beavertail the forend, just to brake up the flat lines s bit, then have b&c repaint it. But that way down on my list of things too do lol.
I also really like that it doesn't have the fat wrist the Medalist on my old RAM did.

It's real easy to make that web on the outside.

I like that B&C M40 stock especially the raised comb. They were looking at a pre 64 Model 70 monte carlo stock when they designed that one. troy fairweather must have been asleep when you got that one away from him!
I really liked the stock, but happy he got to use it. My 700 of I have the it's getting a new barrel so no need for the stock, still have to sell the scope. Here's it with my stainless, I like me the carbon tho

You notice all the stuff i paint, that I post pictures of, are solid colors, or the same stripey pattern? Yes, I can screw up splatter paint.
I WAS considering sponge camoing the whole thing, so you couldn't tell it was a carbon till you picked it up....again very likely delusions of grandeur....tho maybe I'll have some else do the work lol.
Actually that vid of the rifle you sent me is what got me thinking about that, I liked the way that dude's rifle looked.

So in addition to being a super nice person you have mucho gunsmithing skills. That’s my take anyway.
Thank you!
Tho I have to demur in both cases.
You haven't seen me before the first two pots of coffee.....at that point I'd strangle a nice person out of spite.....
And you didnt see my first attempts at gunsmithing, or the recoil lug I cut in half to get the barrel off the 700 action.......I think I have a picture of it......thought I did anyway, I'll go look.

Lol I'd love to see the recoil lug cut lol.

I did the sponge job on a marlin I had, came out very nice and blended in good. Plus added some good grip.

The webbing all you need is a wood paint mixer, mix up some epoxy and drizzle it on.
