If you could have a rifle built to your spec's, what would it be? Any type of action can be used, be it break, rolling block, revolver, lever, bolt, semi, or FA. What caliber would you choose it in, and what type of barrel, receiver, sights, etc would you choose? Remember, price is not an issue, it will be given to you.

Here's mine. A bolt-action .243 with a stainless steel .1000 20" extra-heavy fluted shilen barrel that has a removable muzzle brake, is free-floating, and attaches to the stock at two close points, removable sights, a titanium Stiller Viper receiver with a milled dovetail, that has a removable Ti. plug to accept mags, or to be stiffer, a skeletonized titanium blade savage accutrigger (unless there is better, externally adjustable one), a thumbhole laminate stock in a grayish-color color, with a bipod, and a mercury recoil reducer tube in the stock, oh, and a 3-40X scope, as far as I know, there is no such thing as a 3-40x scope, but it's a dream rifle, and anything happens in a dream, right?

Your turn. If you already have your dream rifle, tell us what your dreams mods are.

Something along these lines. To get this short before, you'd need a single shot break action. Bolt action is more accurate, and loads faster/easier particularly in shooting positions. Break actions are simply unusable for what I'd want. Also has to be accurate. Not some bubba job. Also has ergonomic tactical features ...And, with all of those demands, it still must get decent velocity - which means it must have a decent barrel length which is direct conflict with shorter OAL. This pretty much solves everything - short, accurate, powerful, ergonomic, and you can easily attach scope, bipod and whatever else without any nonsense modifications. Great rifle. I've envisioned something like this for a long time, now someone made it.

Of course, when you get everything, you have to pay for it.... :)

I don't think I can go wrong with any of the Accuracy International rifles....

50 BMG....338 Lapua....308....I'll take one of each...:D

I have a few. :uhoh:

1) Browning BAR 1918A3. Nothing changed, nothing "improved."

2) Galil, 5.56x45, designed to specifically take AR magazines. Folding stock and bipod. Comfortable[/b] PG and fore-end. Redesign the dust cover so that it pivots up front (like a Krinkov) and the rail and rear sight won't wobble around. Parkerize/Duracoat all exterior, hard chrome all interior.

3) M40A3. Nothing changed, all spec.

4) FG42 in .308 Win.

Very light weight Bolt action single shot in 38 Special with a 16.5 inch barrel receiver Peep sights and a hooded front sight. It should be able to be around 4.5 lbs and would be deadly for ground hogs.

Thats a tough one. I have been eyeballing the Ed Brown Marine Sniper rifle for a few weeks now but I'm not sure if I would keep the original 308 chambering or go 280 ackley improved or 30-06??

.308 Win. caliber
Remington 700 action (kinda)
Aluminum bedding block, free floated barrel
Integral scope mounts, 20 MOA
1:12 twist
detachable magazine (I want spares, of course)
synthetic lightweight stock
Nice cushy recoil pad
Schmidt & Bender optics (Haven't decided what model yet)
Chamber cut to bottom of SAAMI specs.
Swivel studs
2.5Lb trigger with overtravel stop
Time to work up loads
place to shoot long range
groundhogs all summer
deer all fall/winter
the list goes on...

I want a short action .308 Winchester with a free floated 22" barrel bedded in an American walnut stock. I want a stock with a straight comb and a feel that fits my body perfectly. I want it to have a deep polished blued action, deep polished blued barrel, and a jeweled bolt. A crisp trigger with no creep and a pull weight of less than 3 pounds is a must. I want a quick handling rifle, so it should weigh less than 8 pounds with a scope mounted.

Top it with Leupold 10x variable scope with a 40mm objective and a gloss finish to match the deep polished blued finish of the rifle.

Call me crazy, but the more tacti-cool a rifle looks, the less I want to shoot it. While a heavy 1" thick barrel has it's benefits, I don't see myself wanting a rifle that weighs 14 to 18 pounds.

Vern beat me to it, as to I already have mine, which is a Mossberg 810 Western Field in 7mm Rem Mag with Redfield bases/mount and Nikon Monarch scope.

Life is good.

+1 Would be my choice as well except....

My Dream build would be very close to the AI AW in .308, .338 Lapua Magnum, or .50BMG.
I would specify a 24" or 26" Heavy barrel and I'll take the new Barret BORIS Optics system on a Leupold IV Scope. Harris 9"-13" swivel bipod,
Barret BORIS Optics system

Hmm. I have several dream rifles in mind, but in terms of a general-use rifle, I think I already have what I want. More correctly, I have the basis to build what I want. I bought a used M77 in .30-06 for super cheap, and I plan on making it my all-around GP rifle. Really nothing particularly wild is going to happen to it, other than a recrowning and a new stock. The key thing with this rifle is that it has iron sights. I actually enjoy shooting with iron sights, and it is so hard to find a "new" rifle that has them!

Ah, this is a topic I should really be good at, being a dreamer by nature!

I'd have to go with a pre 64 winchester model 70 action, that had been blueprinted, either a hart or shilen barrel, fine walnut classic stock with nice hand cut checkering, we better make this a switch barrel rifle, one barrel in 6.5x.284, the other in a plain ole .270 winchester, we'll top it with a good american scope, say a 3.5X10 vari x lll leupold setting in redfied mounts, lets inlet the sling swivels, and add a checkered steel butt plate and pistol grip cap.............oops, I already have it....:D

I'm seeing some (very) neat firearms. I'm interested in the .38 SPL boltie, and the bullpup-action rifle in the first response. The 120 MM Smooth-bore? Sure, it may not be a 'rifle' because of its lack of rifling grooves, but it is just a shot away from you in your dreams, so yep, it qualifies. The BORS system would be something that I would add to my dream rifle. I forgot to mention, I would like the bolt to be fluted, and for it to be a 3-lug. As far as the Ed Brown rifles, they are works of mechanical art, to say the least!

I have a gunsmith working on restocking / rebarreling / accurizing / Guncoating a Ruger #1 in .30-06.

The result will be a 22" stainless heavy barrel #1 with a 1B type forend, brown laminated. Action and barrel black Guncoat.

Ruger doesn't make these, though they make almost every other combination of barrel weight and forearm. I guess it was a dream.

Since he's still working on it, It's probably still a dream. :)

Heavy Varmint rifle w/ a Stiller Viper drop free recv., 6.5x47 cal, March scope, set trigger, Shehane stock, and a known load that reaps < .15 aggs.

I'd also like the magical powers to stop the wind when I pull my trigger.

That's 2 now - boy I have to say that I just don't get the appeal of 6.5x47mm - what in the heck can it do that .260 cannot? It's actually inferior to .260 ballistically, no?

I have a lot of dream rifles. A Blaser to start with. Barrett 82. DSA FAL Predator Hunter in .260 rem.

It would be a semi-automatic chambered in .30-06, hold 8 rounds, and make the noise: bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, ping! ;)

Doesnt have to be exotic to be my dream rifle. I'd take the M1 Garand over any other if I could only have one....so I guess that makes it my dream rifle :D
