I'd also heard/read what BigBL87 mentioned, and I'd heard it with specific reference to Walmart. They had pulled guns and ammo in fear of election riots, and at other times recently due to anti-police riots. According to what I read - which looked somewhat official - that inventory is either kept locked up in a back room or transported to a more secure location. Keep in mind, not all Walmarts sell guns and/or ammo. We have a couple in the region that haven't sold guns since they were opened (maybe ten years or so.) They aren't in bad areas, but somewhat adjacent to less than great areas, let's say.
So I don't think there's a national policy change based on what I've heard. Local policies are probably a different story.
