I can't find any 230gr HP at less than gouge prices so I'll probably load up some 185gr XTP as I have plenty of those with +P load of AA7. I'm sure they will be supersonic.
Thinking that 230gr stuff will be back in stock before I can get form ones stamped, barrel cut, threaded and a silencer built.

I think youll be pleasantly surprised. 185s are really solid bullets in 45.

Oh yeah I know they are. 185 would probably tear stuff up more than a 230gr, I just wanted subsonic.

Got some berrys 230gr HP from midway. I'm sure those will do bad things out of a 16 inch barrel being pushed by +P load of AA7.
Not a golddot and I don't think these are the federal tactical bonded bullet but should work.

hard to believe nowadays, but 44-40 was once the most popular big game round in the US. Back then bears and dear were unarmored, but if you try to copy that load, you should be good. Flat nose instead of hollow.

I wouldn’t fire it at all, with anything, until you get a replacement recoil spring (21lb Wolf would be my choice) and buffer installed.

If you want to hotrod your 45 ACP in a camp carbine, do yourself a favor and get a replacement stock and plastic trigger guard/action assembly first. This way once you destroy the assembly and it splits the fragile stock, you can put the rifle back together and still use regular 45 ACP loads.

#’s 62&55 here.

Or just stick to book non +p data and ensure you have sufficient neck tension.

That said, I guess I’d rather use a 230gn sub out of a 45 than a 147 sub out of a 9mm or a 220 sub from a 300blk for that matter.

Already did. Got the 21lb after marker spring, a pack of recoil buffers, one of which in installed and it had the mid 90s folder.

Because the 9mm post was so much fun right?
I inherited a 45acp camp carbine, which takes 1911 mags. So the rounds have to fit in a 1911 mag. It has the full 16 inch barrel. My benefactor did complain about 20 years ago that a 16 inch barrel on a 45acp is stupid and that he should cut it down. So I may do that.
Accuracy was unexpected. With my worst cast lead mixed head stamp range fodder I was getting holes touching at 25 yards so the accuracy is there.

Why? Just because. Maybe the antis ban everything and all we can have is pistol cal long guns. Maybe my 1894 and k98 are assault rifles and get banned, for reasons. Maybe it's total hunger games and all we can dare hunt with is suppressed subsonic guns, or bow and arrows... Well my shoulders are messed up so bows and arrows are kind of out.
I'll definitely use it on coyotes.

The gun has been modded, today I replaced the original maybe 9lb 25 year old warn out recoil spring with a new 21lb spring and put in a fresh bolt buffer.
Going for subsonic out of the rife, so I'm limited to 230gr and up.
The best powder I have on hand for a carbine loads that stands out is accurate No.7
I'm more likely to be using jacketed bullets.
My speer manual has a nearly 11gr load for a .451'' 225 grain revolver bullet. A 230gr probably about the same.
I have found a few +P loads over the years for AA7, add 1 to 1.5gr depending on the bullet.
Bluedot looks pretty good too, maybe even better than AA7 but I'm running low on it. I can load develop with it, but will have to wait till the plandemic is over before I can get another pound and load up a few boxes.
I'm also interested in hearing how the 45acp's ultimate stopping power (aside from 10mm) is inappropriate for deer.

What are your favorite hot and heavy 45acp 1911 or carbine loads?

For 5.5 inch barrel 1911 I have always loaded unique and more recently general dynamics cbi as I had tried slower powders but there didn't appear to be any advantage to loading 50% more powder in a 5 to 5.5 inch barrel gun to get the same or a little more velocity.

I'm waiting for a thread on the 22LR for deer.

45acp in my Auto Ordnance 1927a1 beats any 45 pistol I ever owned, or the weight of that thing
holding down any recoil, like shooting a 22lr, crosses bullet holes at 25, like the thread says, but it
is only supposed to function 230 gr rn & guess who wasn't loaded up for the 45 cal when this drought started.
Got lots for everything else, the 1927 eats em faster than you can make em.
My advice, keep bbl as is.

I don't think that's legal.
And let's look at potential terminal performance. The lucky gunner ballistics gel tests for 22lr is for a 4.4'' gun which equals a 18'' gun at potential hunting stand off distance, none of the bullets expanded so they stayed at .22, and went in 9 to 12 inches. Definitely deadly, eventually.
The 45 goes in as 45, expands to 3/4 or so, then goes in at least a foot. Ouch.
Don't worry they'll definitely get tested on coyotes before anything bigger.

Now that I have my reloading manuals, looks like a 44-40 is typically 200gr at hottest load in a 24 inch barrel is up to 1,300, but typically closer to 1,000fps in a 18 inch barrel. Only 13,000 cup, case capacity matters.
I'm pretty close to that mass and velocity. Book AA7 +P load, very high subsonic. Old timey 44-40 bullets were probably nearly pure lead, so they mushroom out a little bit and tumble.

I cracked my Camp Carbine stock with a book load 230gr. cast bullet. They are really cool guns, but the stock cracked like glass on mine.

They are not a robust design and some types of ammunition should be avoided .
Aluminum cased ammunition is out too.

Definitely deadly, eventually.

There is lots of stuff one could say that about.

From the 9mm for deer thread, you are headed in the right direction though.

With this being said, prior to cracking the stock (which I repaired) I did tree stand sit with the CC and some 230gr. Hydra Shock HPs for deer a few times.

I have the original wood stock, it's not cracked, I'll probably sell it, should be able to get $100 for it on a bad day.
That gun had the wood on it the first time I shot it in the late 1990s and the last few times I shot it in the early 2000s it had the synthetic folder. I liked the folder better.

A standard pressure 230gr with a slower burning powder should give well over 1,000fps from a carbine...........

I killed a doe with my 1911 using a 200 gr Hornady jhp over a +p load of w-231, got a complete pass Thur and the hole was about the size of the bullet was not impressed at all lol but I was lucky because the bullet got part of the heart. The small doe ran about forty yards before passing away, the shot was about a twenty five yard shot and was completely broad side which it only needed six inches or a little more to get complete penetration.
I was carrying my 1911 while rifle hunting just in case I got a close shot I had made my mind up before hand I was only going to shot a deer if it was like a bow shot which is close and broadside, that’s about the only way a 45acp pistol should be used to kill a deer. IMO

Yeah that seems to be common with hornady 185 and 200gr xtp.
That's why I got some berry's plated 230gr hollow points. I wanted golddots, but who knows when those will be back in stock.
I have also had those remington core loc bullets go straight through a deer from a 30-30.
