Same as 9mm, but I don't have the silencer yet. Or the bullets.
Gun is a 1911, 5.75 inch barrel, 45acp loaded with a 230gr bullet and AA nitro 100 nf, as it's my fastest burning powder by far.
I have loaded a lot of 45acp, normally I use unique, AA7, you know medium to slower 45acp powders, fastest I have used was w231.
I bought a new osprey 45k while the plandemic was raging last summer for about $200 cheaper than a new one and even cheaper than the few used ones I have seen, got the k, its the shorter one and it's been in NFA jail for 8 months now, so soon it will be mine.
So need fast burning, clean burning load and a jacleted or plated bullet as the osprey is a sealed unit.
I have published load data this time, so no shooting from the hip load development.
The problem is the 45acp it's self.
All the common/cheaper 45acp hollow points seem to disappoint in ballistics gel more often than not, about half of the 230gr tests give little to no expansion beyond .45 inches unless they are top velocity +P loads.
AA nitro 100 nf doesn't give top velocities, not even with the +P loads. The nitro100nf +P loads only give normal, standard pressure 230gr velocities. So I'm thinking the only chance I really have at getting a bullet that expands is to wait for speer gold dot 230gr to come back in stock somewhere. Not paying gouge prices. Looking at the lucky gunner ballistic gel tests there is a "short barrel" gold dot load, at standard pressure I think, seems to mushroom out pretty good. The 230gr standard load gold dot also does real good.
Unless anyone knows of another good 230gr bullet that does really well in "short barrel tests"?
Hydra shocks did good but those as loose projectiles were a little hard to find even before the plandemic.

I’d pick the same powder I use for 9mm, N310.

Not like your taking a bullet designed for 2800 fps and slowing it to sub sonic speeds. 230’s are subsonic at normal 45 ACP velocity’s.

Any 230 that’s decent at 45 ACP speeds is all you need to look for. Only a new guy would reach for the “Subsonic” box of 45 acp. You know the same guy that buys the more expensive “subsonic” .22lr after skipping right over the cheaper “standard velocity” .22lr that is also subsonic.

Yeah i saw the golden saber too. I don't know when Remington might start selling bullets again. They're probably better of and make more money selling loaded ammo for now.

The hot AA7 loaded 185gr 45acp ammo I made seems to be rather super sonic out of a rifle.

Over on midway they have berry's plated 230gr hollow points for sale.
I got a 250 pack to test with a nitro100nf +P load, which should yield about standard 45acp 850fps velocity.
Not gold dot but could work well enough.

Well it looks like the max +P load of nitro100nf for berry's 230gr plated hollow points is 780fps in a 5 inch gun. That stuff burns so fast it probably doesn't matter if it's a 4, 5 or 6 inch barrel.
Think 780fps will expand a berry's bullet?
Or load +P of unique, general dynamics cbi and go for 850fps?

Why do some people obsess about gel test results? It's a 45 for goodness sake. Hit the the intended "target" in the right place and its all over.
Every circumstance will be different.99.9999% it will never happen anyway!

Put a name brand bullet with a cool tactical name in the case and be done with it.

Because it's an actual repeatable test. All the flashy packaging, marking and myths stop where the ballistic gel starts.

Looks like nitro100nf likes to pressure spike when bullet setback happens.
And we all know 45acp bullets can get set back in their cases.
So if I use nitro100nf I'll be using the starting load or a little less.
Or switch to HP38.

Glad I roll my own, prefer 200gr hps with huge hp's cast with a soft +/- 7bhn. I use these 200gr hp's for my every day run of the mill blammo ammo & cast several 1000 a year.

I pc them & burn them by the 1000's, plan on going to the range today and burning some up. Bringing the springfield ro's (9mm & 45acp) and throwing some brass around.

A mihec 452-200

Was out burning a couple hundred of them up today playing around @ 50ft on the bowling pin table and the dueling tree. These were in the berm, they really aren't pretty by any means. The left bullet was hit by another bullet taking a petal off the penta point. The right bullet is a round hp.

Guess I should of put a dime in the picture but anyway, that's what they do @ 900fps. I really should be using a little harder alloy. But then again clogging and non-expanding are never in the discussion when it comes to these bullets. They flat out put the smack on anything they hit, have excellent expansion & are a pure joy to shoot. Watching the bowling pins fly is just icing on the cake.
