Carry habits....same or "gun of the day?"

For me, it's "gun of the situation", matching carry weapon to the threat matrix and additional factors such as legal restrictions or socially NPE requirements. The gun I carry to walk the dog/get the mail at night is completely different than the one I carry for dinner and a movie on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver, or the one carried for a social function at church.

I have 4 that I will alternate, usually based on clothing or where I might be going. Full size Beretta 92, down two an NAA mini revolver, with a few in between that are between those two size extremes.

I sometimes change up. I like guns and I have more than one gun I enjoy carrying. Do whatever works for you.

Different carry for different situations and attire.
1- Ruger LCP2 for hot sticky days wearing shorts and when wearing dress slacks.
2- S&W 442 primary carry
3- Taurus 605 357mag short hike carry where four legged critters may be a threat.
All three handguns are carried the same way front pocket carry.

4- Taurus 415 41 mag or S&W 686+ OWB or pack carried, in addition to a pocket gun for wilderness hiking.
5- Springfield XDM 45acp compact carried IWB cooler temperatures and areas where risk is higher, but with a pocket gun. (I don't live in that neighborhood anymore)

I only have 2 guns that I carry. A K6s 3" on my belt most of the time, and when I'm in sweatpants or at a dressy occasion I'll carry an LCP in my pocket instead.

I carry the big one when I have pants, a belt, and no concerns about movement. The small almost always in a fannypack or kitbag when I am biking, at the gym, or otherwise can get away with not looking like a crazy person for wearing a fannypack or kitbag.

Once or twice a year, at most, I'll shoot another gun for IDPA or another range day (Star PD, S&W 19, etc) , and will go ahead and carry that weird and less capable thing for the day for the fun of it. But it's rare and even then doesn't always last all day.

Gun of the day, of course! Everyone knows that the finish and grip color of one's handgun must match one's belt, shoes and attire. Don't for example, carry a pistol in FDE while wearing all gray or shades of red, it simply clashes heinously.

(Actually, I do rotate the pistols I carry... but they're mostly all some model of SIG P-series -- with the same type of sights -- with no manual safety and always carried OWB at 3:00-3:30... although, when I'm feeling frisky, I've been known to pack a Commander-sized 1911 in an IWB rig and on Throwback Thursdays, I'll occasionally pack a Colt or S&W six-shot snubbie)

Yes of course, but... you have guns that do not match your style? That's just poor planning!

I usually pick one or two from a small assortment of very-similar weapons. Something as simple as the belt loop spacing of the trousers I am wearing may fit a particular holster better, or a particular cover garment may tend to catch on a particular grip grip material, or a shorter or longer cover garment may affect the barrel length of the weapon, but they are all long-stroke, double-action, medium-frame revolvers. All seem to behave about the same in my hands. So, this is one general type, though each could be seen as a “gun of the day.” My usual suspects are:

A pair of 2” S&W Model 64 K-Frames.

A 4” Ruger Speed Six.

A 2.75” Ruger Speed Six.

Several 3” and 4” GP100 revolvers, and, if I choose, there is a 6” GP100, too.

Several 2.25” and 3” SP101 revolvers.

I am generally against the idea of a “rotation” of dissimilar weapons, at least for the role of “primary” carry gun. I want to be able to draw a weapon, which has a grip that adequately fills my hand, in a consistent way, and which has a trigger reach that results in in a very familiar interface with that all-important control surface. Yes, the SP101 has a shorter reach, but nature blessed me, with the ability to stroke the SP101 trigger, in a natural way, without having to consciously adjust anything. My index finger lands on the trigger face in a different way, but the pull remains “natural,” with no conscious change required.

I will, on rare occasions, carry a Seecamp LWS-32 pistol, for a very specific circumstance. The trigger pivot point is nicely far-forward, and it is a long-stroke DA pull, so this little weapon shoots much like a medium-frame DA revolver, including its “pointing” characteristics, which is important, as there are no sights.

Again, this has been about the “primary” carry gun. My second gun, if I carry one, is usually one of this same group. Then, there are supplemental firearms, which can be rifles, shotguns, and/or handguns. This is where I might deviate, further into other auto-loaders, or different revolvers, which will probably be positioned for lefty access. I am left-handed, but right-armed. I chose to carry at 0300, in 1983. 33+ years of big-city LEO-ing reinforced reaching for 0300, during emergencies. My right hand has become gimpy, however, so I do not always trust it to be stable enough for auto-loading reliability; that is part of the reason I retired. Therefore, the revolver-as-primary, now, in retirement. (Yes, this does mean that my “back-up” handgun might be larger than my “primary” handgun. My former-duty Glock G17 might “back-up” a 2” snub-gun. ;) )

I have two that I carry and it depends on what I’m wearing. A Glock 48 in a OWB holster , or a Glock 43 in a IWB holster. Both are carried in the same possession.

Heck yeah, I pick the gun of the day. One Glock for every day of the week. Next week its CZ's. 1911 on holidays.

Today was BBQ gun day. Suited up with a completely inconspicuous giant USPSA Limited blaster.

I used to switch around between a couple guns when I first started carrying. Past 6-7 years it has been a J frame in my front pocket, sometimes a 638, others a 442

They fit my hand, my pocket, and in my waistband. I’ve shot them a lot and consider myself a fair to average shooter. Maybe good at times. I rotate the J-Frames, Two daily. Usually it’s the bobbed 37 and a 442 but, the 3”. 36 is a sweet shooter and carried sometimes. 9E574B88-C1C2-4E49-B22F-6F6860AC648A.jpeg

Gun of the day. I got a CCW to exercise my freedom. In this neighborhood I doubt I'll ever need a firearm to protect myself.
And there are different uses, sometimes, when the rain is heavy, it's the Governor, for protection from the real threat of migrating snakes.
Other times it's the more versatile and smaller K6. Other times, it's something smaller.
OTOH, I find it interesting that so many people, who cleave so desperately to a firearm, make no mention of a multi tool, or SAK, or no light, whatsoever.
I use the multi-tool, and light, many times a day, while hauling around this other high maintenance, and relatively useless, hunk of heavy metal. The SAK tweezers gets used at least weekly, for removing splinters and thorns.

In retrospect, if I had to choose, I'd generally leave the gun behind.

This is what I carry most of the time.
