Your Favorite Ruger & Why

My SBH because it was my 1st Ruger i bought. And my P345 because it was my 1st 45acp. Other than being my 1st with them. I like all my Rugers very much.

LCR 327 magnum. For the LCR trigger and for the 32 H&R magnum caliber. Simply can not find anything that is in current production that can match it. I carry and shoot this gun more than all other revolvers i own combined. That would change if they came out with a 3" LCRx version in 327.

My favorite Ruger? Sort of like asking which tool in your toolbox is your favorite.

But this New Model Super Blackhawk is one of them. Had it reworked and case hardened by Doug Turnbull. Never got into the woods with it to any extent, but spent a long of range time doing some 100 yard shooting with it. I got to the stage I could tear up a foam coffee cup on the bank at 110 yards down range. Also could cut tall weeds at that range.



And this .45 Colt Blackhawk has had all the alloy parts removed and replaced with slue steel parts. Custom touches and grips by Tom Grashorn. Its my constant companion as my daily carry revolver:

Ruger is a classy outfit. That's a company that cares about its customers and makes the products guys like me want, tough as nails firearms in configurations others can't or won't produce. I've got a few-

Amazing customer service, awesome guns and a price that normal guys can afford. Love ruger. There are several others I want, I'll have to get them one at a time though. A #1 in 45-70 would be great, a 45 colt blackhawk would be nice, a few others too.

Only ruger I've owned and didn't like was the 10/22, it ran fine but I found the controls finicky and the ergonomics not quite right. Anyone who doesn't at least appreciate ruger for what they do is simply missing the point, reliable and robust firearms that will outlast just about anything else. All mine are extremely accurate and my gp100 has an action that has become super slick and that revolver shoots like a dream. My super redhawk has digested close to 4000 rounds of ammo that would turn almost anything else into scrap metal and has given up nothing since new. My mk3 has around 30,000 rounds through it and has no problem chewing the middle out of a target. My 77 doesn't shoot cast bullets as well as I'd hoped but can manage 2" groups at 100 yards if the stars align and I can manage to do my part. Darn good guns.

My favorite Ruger by far is my Super Redhawk Alaskan 44 Magnum. It’s a blast (literally) shooting 180gr XTPs over 31gr H110 moving over 1400fps from a snub.

Wife had that same hammerless SP101 .357.
I was amazed at the accuracy and tame recoil, with full power 125 gr JHP loads. Alas, I traded it off, when she could not longer pull the DAO trigger, due to arthritus.

I had any old model Ruger MkII 7mmRem Mag for 35 years. Great rifle, but sold it to my friend, who was retiring to Utah and needed an elk rifle.

Daughter has a LCP .380. Wasn't a my favorite, but it served it's purpose.

3 10-22s, what's not to like. A 70s model, open sights, 80s model, scoped and anniversary model with a red dot.

My first Ruger, SBH 7 1/2" .44mag. Had it for 35 years, took several deer and hogs. For some reason, took it to a gun show and got an offer is couldn't refuse.

Next gun show, came across a stainless BH
4 .6" .357.
Had 3 Vaqueros, traded 2 for Blackhawks. Not a bit Vaquero fan. The Blackhawks feels better on my hand. Them last Vaquero will go, when I find a suitable Blackhawks replacement. It is a
4.6" .45C with the .45ACP extra cylinder. The Blackhawks are 3 screw, unmolested, 7 1/2" .30 Carbine; 3 screw, unmolested, 4.6" .41Mag; and a NM, stainless, 4.6" .44Mag.

Have 2 Single Six. An unmolested 3 screw
5 1/2" and a stainless NM 6 1/2". Both have both cylinders. I keep the LR cylinder in the old and Mag in the new.

À .32 H&R or .327Fed is one my radar. A .45 dual cylinder is the holy grail.

I suppose I qualify as a fan boy.

I'd also have to go with the Security Six. Why, because of its proportions and stoutness, a smaller six shot magnum that's also built like a tank. The 2-3/4 version is an easy cc revolver too. I also have other Ruger revolvers thats been top notch, and several semi autos, throw in Rugers excellent customer service, they are just hard to beat.

Until I find a 4.6" barrel Single Six that I'm willing to pay for, my current favorite Ruger revolver is my little Shopkeeper. It gets more frequent use than my 9.5" Single Six or my 6" GP100.

I did add a longer ejector to it recently to improve the plinking experience.

Mine has been my original 44 mag vaquero 4 5/8 in 44 mag with Eagle gunfighter grips. But I have a Ruger 44 spl flattop 5 1/2 that may become my favorite as I shoot it more. Also really like my 22/45.

I'll start.

I have a 2.25" SP101 in 357 Mag.
I'm embarrassed to say, but it's a replacement for one I blew up.
The only thing I can figure is that I must've double charged it.
On a whim I asked Ruger if they wanted it for research purposes.
I was SHOCKED when they emailed & asked if I wanted a replacement FOC (free of charge).

It taught me a valuable lesson in reloading - PAY ATTENTION!!!

Besides being an outstanding customer service representation, it's a big kick in the teeth for home defense.
I definitely don't feel under powered or under gunned if I should need it.

Exactly why I don't reload, "Never do anything yourself you can get someone else to do better than you can."

I like the SRH’s really well, great ready to go hunting platform and optics ready. I also really love the SBH with the 5 shot Bisley, but my favorite just plain fun is the Bisley BH 4 5/8” flattop 44 special. I do wish the Ruger Bisley style grip was bigger like the BFR Bisley style but it is an awesome little revolver about everyone that shoots it loves it.

The Shopkeeper is one of my favorites….very nice.

I'm not going to create jealousy among my tribe by singling one out. SP101 3" for its best trigger. 4 3/4 45 Colt Blackhawk for its accuracy and power on deer. 10-22 for the fun factor. Stainless Blackhawk cause it was dad's and it is a beast. Max 9, just because it isn't a Glock, Springfield, Colt or Smith.

My favorite Ruger of the 4 different ones that I have owned is the Security 9 compact. My reasons are simply practical, and they are listed below.

Affordable — I live on a fixed income that requires careful budgeting and the pistol offers high quality functionality at a very affordable price.

Reliable — I searched out every review of the pistol in print and online that I could find. It v did not get any bad marks on features that are actually important.

Customer service — my experience with Ruger CS over the past 12 years have all been positive. They are responsive, fast, and affordable, if you have to pay, which often you do not.

Ergonomics — the gun feels as good in my hand as any other I ever owned except for the Walther PPS M2, which I sold to get increased capacity.

Capacity — while the pistol comes with two 10 round magazines there is also a 15 round magazine available. That gives me good options for concealment. I always carry at least one extra mag. If a load a ten for better concealment I carry a 15 as the extra. If I load a 15 I carry a 15 as extra. That’s 25 or 30 +1. If I had to go into a dangerous situation I would my two ten and two 15 round magazines. That’s 50 rounds.

Concealment — with the flat based 10 round mag the pistol deep conceals as well as my LC9S. With the 15 round mag it is still quite concealable.

It is a hammer fires pistol, and while others will disagree, I trust hammers/firing pins more than strikers. When charged the hammer is in a half ocked position which makes for an easy trigger pull.

Accuracy — if you hold it right and shoot it right and shoot it right it will perform as well as your aim.

Hefty — the pistol is just heavy enough to dampen recoil, unlike the LC9s and Max 9.

Size — it is bigger than the LC9s and the Max 9, but not that much bigger, so opt for capacity.

There are some weird looking revolvers in this thread.

I have the sec 9 in full size (for things that go bump in the night) and in compact (my new carry gun) I bought the compact to carry because the full size felt so good in my hand.

Some folks think revolvers could qualify as semi-autos, so turn about is fair play.

My most favorite of all my handguns. After having the throats opened and forcing cone done with 8.5 grains Unique under a 250 cast swc or fp it is scary accurate.

Favorite Ruger--- Mark ll Government Target Model 6 7/8in barrel. I put over 100k rds through it shooting plates and pins. I had a
Volquartsen comp on it (slip on secured with the front sight screw). It shot great.
