From what I can tell the majority (as in not all) of gen Z worships at the alter of “technology” if its tech they’ll embrace it.

I’ll pass on one of these, but if the tech is mostly reliable the next generation will have no problem with it and they’ll have no problem mandating it either.

And they would be solid state, which is really reliable if the temperature is right, the batteries in good condition, necessary inputs detected, checklist completed, and not in restricted area. They could easily self report through the electronic control module. Unless, of course, there is a chip shortage, or chips are hacked or have malware or back doors baked in. What could possibly go wrong?

And who is makeing all those chips?

It’s gonna be a hard, very hard, pass for me. But I also say it should be subject to free market principles. Let the consumer decide whether it’s worth owning or not.

government mandate is a different subject altogether.

Skunks are pretty friendly creatures but you let one get in the house and they will wreck everything.

I like the analogy. I hope the smart gun fails miserably.

and on second thought, remembering how many avenues government has to force compliance on all levels of society, forget letting free market principles decide. There is no free market here anymore, anyway.

smart guns should be stamped out like feral cats.

Like any potential threat to our rights its important that People stick together and hold the no compromise attitude. Its the only thing that has shown effective. Doesnt matter which side you come from. Technology is great and all but when its used as a weapon against you... not so much. Biowarfare is technology too. So are Nukes. Some hidden technology in a "smart" gun (nice term) and you could be disarmed at the flip of a switch.
What do you do then.... shoot from a faraday cage?

I am smart enough to be responsible with firearms. The original name was Dumb Gun technology but it didnt do well with the anti gun focus group so they had to change it. Next time they will call it "Super" Gun or "Responsible" gun technology. More monkey dummies in marketing strike again! Its like a group of crazy chimps think this stuff up.

I carry "Freedom" guns. No chips. Against my religion. My gun my choice.

Then fight those laws. Because if your logic is "technology bad because politicians" then there's really nothing stopping them from banning everything except single action revolvers and mandating those always have trigger locks attached.
A few years ago when I was still living in Cali a friend in another state was thinning his collection and had an early 70's Model 36 he wanted to sell. No ranges near me had any J-frames for rent, so I had never shot one, but I wanted it. Called my LGS to find out if it was legal to have it shipped to them for me, guess what, nope, not on the list. Must be considered an assault revolver with that huge capacity of 5 rounds.

For the record, I told him I'd send him the money and he should keep the gun until I got moved to Arizona and then he could send it to an FLL here, and that's what we did.

Is that your ccw? How long have you been shooting?

I do, with every vote I can cast supporting candidates with positions that align with mine. With 43,000,000 inhabitants, any ripple I make isn’t much in such a sea. But I try.

And, sorry, but the “your logic” sarcasm you’re offhandedly tossing out to paint me with is really rather pathetic.

My statement of warning is merely a simple one on this topic; don’t think for a moment that, “It won’t happen here” when crazy gun restrictions are passed in your State capitol. This electronic gun idiocy is exactly what Ca, Mass, NJ, etc. are waiting for to slam the door on tomorrow’s gun buyers.

You may think people are crying, “The sky is falling” because it may be a “free state” where you live at home, but it probably will not stay quite so crimson as rapid demographic shifts occur. Like most States, Ca is mostly rural but is ruled by blue population centers. Draconian restrictions have already happened here, and those who plot to carve up or completely eliminate the 2A rights of you and of future generations are working every single day to bring it there, too.

But, as an American, you’re free to think as you wish. Let us all carry on.

Stay safe.

No, my ccw is a 3" Colt King Cobra. I thought I would use the Model 36 for carry but two range visits disabused me of the idea, I was much less accurate with it compared to my first gun (4" 686+) and shooting it totally killed my hand. It's beautiful with the original grips and perfect bluing, but it lives in my safe.

Started shooting in 2015, prior to which I had never even shot a water pistol.

I was going to say that a snub nose 36 is a pretty tough gun to start with. People get fooled by pistol size when starting. It takes a decent amount of skill to be good with snubbies. Give it time and a good set of rubber grips .... you will be able to shoot it well. I tell most people a 4" 38 if they want to start with a defensive style handgun. whoever pushed you towards a 4" 686 was spot on. Colt is going to spoil you.

I'm not in favor of producing smart guns. But if the goal is to make guns illegal this is a poor way to achieve that goal. Without ammo guns are paperweights. The easiest way to achieve their goals is to attack the ammo with laws, restrictions, and excessive taxes to buy it.

Hardly anyone will actually buy one.

This can only succeed as a business model if heavily subsidized by the government.
i.e. FORCED compliance by the government

I hope this fails miserably. Not for safety reasons, I’m all for that. But for political ones. If you like firearms, I think you should, too.

In all seriousness, should this get accepted what is to stop your state from then limiting you to buying only this gun and banning the sale of any other non-“smart” guns, period?

If you don’t think that’s possible, go buy a new SA 35 in a Ca gun store. Or a Glock 48. Or a Dan Wesson Bruin. Or most of the hundreds of other new guns out there.

You can’t.

Ca says they’re “unsafe” so no new ones can be sold to the general public. Only those guns on a “DOJ roster of safe guns” can be sold. Guns now on the list sunset over time, so more choices get dropped every new year.

I get what you’re saying, no one wants unintended or purposeful misuse of firearms. But in this case be very, very careful what you wish for. Experience has proven the slippery slope of good intentions falling into an insane reality is very steep, and is almost impossible to reverse.

Stay safe.

"FREE MARKET" as long as its approved by your overlord. Amazes me people still fall for this propoganda.

PLEASE read and contemplate the red lined comments in the above post (winner winner chicken dinner THNX:thumbup: ).

BANNING guns, portions thereof i.e. magazine SIZES, accessories, restricting ammo i.e. stroke-of-a-pen BOOM no ammo imports. Yes yes absolutely! YOU KNOW the Gov't is salivating at this AS VERIFIED by one member, already happening / has happened in other states (besides the quoted post e.g. Cali).

All will be heralded with cherubs a floatin' round the announcer...gun ssssssafety. Think of the ccccchildren. It's rrrrreasonable, lookie, even (R or other party) Bill Lemming:p agrees.
And the MOST RECENT knee jerk reaction, if U do not agree at LEAST 110% U R racist

What we really need are lil proximity key fobs that will activate your new smart gun, the government will issue you a fob after (1) 200 hrs of training, (2) fingerprinting and (3) background check, (4) 180 day waiting period, (5) written signed affidavits and approval from your local LEO and a safety sponsor.

Once you obtain your key fob you will get a list of guns you may choose from with different capacity limits based on a battery of risk assessment factors that will determine which gun you will be permitted to own. These fobs will also automatically deactivate in proximity with gun free zones....

Ya know. For the kids.......
