Saw this pop up on my news feed today
https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-n...ng-us-seeking-shake-firearms-market-rcna11757
Personaly...I find the idea half baked and unworkable. However, with so many new and prospective gun owners in the market, I fear something like this may gain an, albeit small niche, foothold today. Its a rehash of the old RFID systems and....wait for it...app based technology...because of course it is. "Hold up there mister bad guy...just have to get a signal so I can unlock my gun" :fire::cuss:o_O
Ok, so this isn't just a article dump type post, let me expound on why I think these are a terrible idea. One, you don't rely on a mechanical safety to keep you safe...and certainly not an electronic one. And two, I think this only appeals to people that think they would like to have a gun, but are either afraid of them, or have someone in the home that can't be trusted with one. In either case, probably shouldn't get one. A product like this just offers a false sense of security

Russian or Chinese Cyber Ops will hack our guns and shut ‘em down. You ever have to use your phone in an emergency situation? You can guarantee the facial recognition won’t work or you’ll put your passcode in wrong, or it will want you to update the app. That’s why we have 1911s!

John Wick will probably have one in the next film. probably a whole wave of propoganda coming with this. Any accidental shooting will be world wide news for weeks. Hours of images of children who were killed accidentally by firearms with actors pretending to be the parents crying on Oprahs shoulder. Should be just wonderful. Then they will trott out all the fake RKBA Supporters who support smart guns. Anyone not on board will be a paranoid gun nut that wants dangerous and unsafe weapons of war in the hands of children.

Probably a run on Non Smart guns because nobody is going to want this other than youtubers to get clicks. Blah, Blah, Blah.... gun community trys not to get divided by the onslought of fake accounts on gun forums from people posting in Asia pretending to be heartland USA Gun folk. Probably have some pro gun celebs sell us out. Crook politicians will use it to get votes on both sides just in time for the mid terms.

Meanwhile gun owners are all distracted and fearing loosing nice shiny things while more summer camps get built and election voting is "organized" for predetermined outcomes.

Thats my guess anyways. I wish these mutts would do something new. Its gotten old.
