Not to doubt your experience, but I had the opposite happen. We were in the desert and a dog ran in front of my truck. The dog weighed about 60 pounds. Unfortunately I could not stop in time and hit the dog. I was horribly injured but not dead. A buddy of mine happened to have RIP ammo in his Glock 19 and shot the dog in chest to put it out of misery. After two rounds the dog was still alive and in extreme pain. I had to hold the dog down to get a clean shot into the head. This worked and thankfully the dog was dead. It was a horrible experience and made me sick. We did not autopsy the dog but the rounds clearly did not penetrate to a useful depth. This is a very limited experience but enough to let me know that I would not trust these rounds.
Edit to add that this was about three years ago, so maybe the ammo has changed.
