Dream gun for hunting

Found my dream rifle years ago. A true joy each year to hunt with it. Less than 1500 made and when I found it, was unfired. Ive put a few nicks and marks into the wood, metal blueing is showing wear and it’s drawn blood.
A Savage 99 in rare 375 win. Ive got dies and a 250gr cast mold, plus various jacketed bullets, also boxs of factory 250,220,200gr ammo for it. A quick detachment Leupold 1.5-5 in Warn Rings definitely gets accuracy out of it. At 100 yards, 1” 3 shot group is the normal. Plenty for 250 yards if sighted in correctly and using 175 spire points with 1680 powder…. 2500fps. Or closer distance with the 255 Barnes original at about 2000+ fps

Gorgeous rifle are those iron sights factory stock? Do you know what year it was made?

As it is now bow season where I live, what is everyone's dream bow/crossbow/rifle /shotgun/muzzleloader for any species? For myself I would like a hoyt rx4, ten point invader 400, custom rem 700/win 94, rem v3, and rem 700 ultimate muzzleloader.
Believe it or not my dream bow was an old Bear Black bear round wheel bow probably made in the 1970’s. You could almost outrun the arrows but it was so accurate I used it to head shoot squirrels and grouse with Judo point arrows. Took several deer and 2 turkeys with it. I gifted it to my nephew when he became interested in bow hunting and he took his first deer with it. I have had many faster bows since but none as consistently accurate.I bought it at a flea market and had a new string put on it. I shot fingers with it. IFIRC I paid $25 for it.

I’m a retired PE teacher.
We taught archery in our classes for years and I am a certified NASP instructor.
However, my 62 year old shoulder doesn’t allow me to bow hunt anymore.
I also have a Remington 700 in caliber 30-06, and it is my dream gun as well!
I remember as a boy reading the old field and stream and guns and ammo mags and seeing the 700 advertisements and dreaming about having one.
My second was the Winchester model 94. We grew up on Saturday morning westerns and the 94 was another that I longed for.
I have both but my 700 has some very special meaning to me and is my go to if I can only pick one.
I understand what you are saying.
I hunted with my 700 30-06 for over 33 years without a single fail what so ever. Made in 1975 its still ready to go.
My wife killed her first deer, the first day of her first hunt with her first shot using my Winchester 94 30-30, made in 1964. It to has never failed in all those years.
Both are truly Dream guns. None finer.

I am dreaming about a Sharps .45/70 for deer season. First, I need Illinois to adopt straight walled cartridges for deer hunting.
Neighboring states have done it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm currently running a 40-70 C. Sharps in Ohio. Great while I'm on stand. Not ideal while slip or still hunting. received_430445247960754.jpeg received_194483555554723.jpeg

This is on its way. 1886 40 65 wcf. For slip hunting heavy cover.

I'd just be happy with my old Rem 760 carbine in 308 if the magazine would quit falling out of it.

I'd be happy to find one treasonably priced!

One of my "dream guns" is a 760 carbine bored out to either .358Win or .338Federal. I've bid on multiple guns on Gunbroker, but I'm just not willing to pay that much on a rifle I'll end up putting a lot of $$ into to "prefect" it. I want to build my concept of the "deep woods carbine" even though we've got something of a deep woods shortage here in KS.

I finished my .260 Rem M7 "dream gun" (minus load development) this month:

The modifications to my M7 in .350RM; Manners stock & Cerakote, are this years project. Then will come the 760 or 7600.

I'm way more of a function over form guy, so my dreams involve carbon fiber, stainless steel and Cerakote VSblue steel, wood and engraving.

I am guessing that rifle is close to or south of 7lbs? That will be a handful of fire breathing fury my friend. New take on the old model 600. Congratulations.

The one pictured is a .260, with a Bartlein 2B profiled barrel. It's at 7lbs 5 ounces "all up" with sling and 4rds.

The .350RM with the same Manners stock should come in "all up" at a hair over 7lbs, so very close to the original MOD 600 weight (scoped etc.), but sporting a 20" magnum profiled barrel. I get 2830 with Hornady 200s and 2726 with Nosler 225 partitions. My next load development will be with TAC, so I should get a little more oomph.

So it will suck off the bench...but that's not what its built for.

What recoil pad do you have mounted?

I'd like to hunt with a heavy full sized English longbow.

looks like they are available and easily purchased.

I recently took delivery of an English warbow ordered more than a year ago.

I wish I had more pictures - the maker sent me dozens, from yew stave to finished bow, and most have been lost.

At any rate, I've used it for a bit of small game hunting - and for second place in our state bowhunting championships! - but it's ended up taking a huge set and being much lighter draw weight than I'd hoped. I'd planned on it being my "favorite" hunting bow, but that honor is still held by my Howard Hill "Wesley Special" which I ordered by asking Craig Ekin to "Make me one exactly like the one pictured on your website, 75#@ 29""

At any rate, hickory and laminated English longbows and warbows aren't too hard to find in the U.S. - I've had great luck with "Archeybowman" bows from eBay - but honest-to-God yew longbows are actually kind of tough. I'm not aware of any really reliable sources in the U.S., and bows from Canada and England are enormously expensive and take forever.

FYI, Federal Fusions 200grs were faster than any of my maxed handloads. In fact they were 50 fps more than their published velocity. I couldn't get within 100 fps of the factory loads.

Doesn't surprise me. Newer cartridge and they don't have fears that it will be shot in an antique, plus hey have access to powder combinations that we don't.

I love hunting with 100+year old rifles. My favorite still hunting rifle is my Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1905 made in 1921 or my Remington model 14 in 30 rem made in 1920. Both fit the hand and balance perfectly.
I have an old Mannlicher action. An old friend gave it to me many years ago because it was a project he'd never get done. It's an old 6.5x54 ms I believe. It's an old Greek military action. Those actions are slicker than greased owl ****. Such craftsmanship.

Beautiful rifle.

A Linebaugh custom revolver in .475 Linebaugh of course. But I’d settle for a Ruger in 41 Mag or .357 Maximum. My local Cabela’s had a very nice Ruger .357 Maximum. But at $1900 (used) I’m halfway to the custom Linebaugh.
