I’ve got a Ruger LCP 2 in .22lr and I really like it. Initially it had some teething problems, but I changed out the factory springs with some aftermarket versions and it runs like a champ. I do occasionally use it for carry around my house and out to the UDF for milk and such. The capacity of the pistol is nice, and the weight and dimensions of the gun make it a dream to carry in a pocket. I also have a Ruger LCP Max which sees a lot of carry time. The .22lr version pairs nicely with the more expensive and higher recoiling .380.
I recommend buying the LCP .22lr for all the reasons you mention EXCEPT as a kids training gun. It’s small and the sights are pretty tiny. A Smith M&P .22 compact or Ruger Wrangler would probably be a better option. Maybe even a Ruger Bearcat!
