What's the most that you overpaid for ammo/components?

When you've defined "overpaid", without reference to any nonsensical claims to a right to set the price of things you don't own, I'd be happy to consider the question.

You can't. Same as "price gouging", the concept vanishes as soon as you thoroughly apply property rights, including the right to sell one's property, to the conversation.
I think you may be taking my post a bit too seriously. I don't think we have many Commies on this site, so the capitalistic free market isn't something that you have to defend here.

I hate to admit it, but I paid $449.00 plus $30.00 shipping for a 1000 rounds of S&B 9mm fmj right before things got really stupid. Not too long after I gifted a 9mm Shield and 200 of them to my brother who lives in Seattle, he didn't own a handgun. I'm keeping the rest and will never shoot them unless CW2 breaks out as a reminder to prepare more efficiently.
Don't feel too bad, that's not really all that awful considering it's only about 50% more than current prices. Given how fast ammo was flying off the shelves I'd say you did pretty well.

Besides, you didn't have to drive all around early in the morning and have to sit in long lines to have a chance at getting it.

don’t feel bad, 1000 fmj 9mm 115 is going for $330 now not a crazy difference for peace of mind

. . .so the capitalistic free market isn't something that you have to defend here.
You would hope so, but then someone's always like. . .

See, I understand that in a free market any object can be sold to who ever is willing to pay the most for it. Unfortunately this ends up being pushed wayyy to far. . .
So you "get it", right up until someone else offers to sell their property for a price that rankles you. . . then you don't get it any more? Got it!

You think you own their property just enough to be offended at their asking price.

The most I have (over?) paid was for primers was in October of 2021 when I ordered a case (5 bricks) of CCI No. 41 primers from Graf’s for $388 delivered including haz mat, shipping and 8.6% WA state sales tax. Still less than $80 per thousand, and if you back out the shipping, haz mat and sales tax, it was $65 per brick. I was hesitant to pay that much, but at the time, finding anyone that would allow you to purchase 5 bricks at once was rare. In hindsight, it would appear that it was a good decision.

But do so in very limited amounts.

With dollar/cost averaging it "blends in" quite well in the long run.

There's Not a drone which will orbit our homes pulling a sign reading "Your neighbor overpaid 50% (etc) for something". No you Vorry About Eeet.:)

So if the main goal here is to eliminate ground squirrels, or punch holes in paper, look into PCP's or black powder. Air is still pretty cheap, and black powder can be made for next to nothing. Stick to flinchlocks and you'll not even need #11 caps.

At the time I thought I was paying to much for primers @ $112.00/5000 ! Bought a LOT of'em. Honestly cannot remember how far back. Got 70% of them left, don't see any need to buy more unless to play like the stock market and invest now to scalp them later. That is just the kind of bent hairpin I am

6 boxes as in 300 rounds? that’s absolutely CRAZY… but it was crazy times too. I guess $550 for a peace of mind is worth it.

A friend of mine bought a used SIG P230 .380 a few weeks into the Great .380 Ammo Shortage some years back and he was wanting to get ammo for it to try it out. At that time there was nothing available locally so that meant going to gun shows in the area just to find any. And when you did find it was priced anywhere from $1 to $2 a round! Most of it was factory ammo but from the condition of some of those boxes it looked like some of it had been stored in a damp, musty basement for quite some time!

Naw man, I'd have worn out my arms, as well as my ramrod trying to exterminate ground squirrels with my muzzle loader over on our friend's ranch this past spring. While it's true that my wife's and my "main goal" was to "eliminate ground squirrels," there were (and still are) thousands of them. We were killing about a hundred ground squirrels in a couple of hours, two or three mornings every week. My muzzle loader would have been completely impractical for that.
The fact is, last year when our friends asked us to come over and shoot ground squirrels on their ranch, on our first trip over, I took my .22-250 along in case there were any "long distance" ground squirrels to shoot. And when we first got there, I actually did pick out a ground squirrel that was maybe 125 yards out and shot him. But as soon as I pulled the trigger, I thought, "Man, that was stupid - all of that noise and expense when there are hundreds of ground squirrels running around within 50 yards of where we parked the truck!" So, I put my .22-250 away, got my Ruger 10-22 out, and went to work exterminating ground squirrels. ;)

Not ammo. But a year or so ago I spent over a hundred $ for bolt parts at numrich for a 410 shotgun made sometime between 1933 and 1943. None of those parts fit. Very, very long story cut short. A guy a couple hundred miles away advertised that he had a shotgun like mine for sale for $100. I could drive to pick it up or he would send to my ffl.
To save money I just gave him a $100. Told him to just mail me the bolt and keep the rest of the gun. Due to the long story I wound up having over $250 ,in my $100 gun. But, In the end I'm a happy camper.
As far as ammo goes. EVERY BOX of ammo I "and probably everyone else" has purchased in the past two years has been OVERPAID for.

Last year I paid $550.00 for 5K of CCI #41 inc sales tax, delivery and Hazmat. A ridiculous amount but they came up for sale and I hadn't seen any small rifle primers for almost 18 months so I pounced.
Most of my other primers I bought in 2014 for about .02-.04 ea. Those days are gone forever. Sniff. Luckily I bought cheap and stacked deep.
