What's doing with the NRA

Please be careful of what Ammoland and Narwatch put out until you investigate who's running them.

The Lawsuit is definitely real, but to me there are some strange people backing those two outfits.

The lawsuit at NRA Watch reads the same as the one on the DC attorney generals website.

Yes it does; I just started looking up the owners of those sites and they definitely were not for me. Your mileage may very, so that's why I said do your own research.

Especially on the guy that wrote the book about Wayne and the NRA.

I find it amazing that so many are paying dues just a year at a time!

The NRA has specials all the time, about 20 years or a bit longer ago I bought my Life Time Membership for $300 … regular price at that time was $700, so it just made good sense.

The range I belong to gets our insurance from the NRA so membership is required anyway.

i became an NRA life member in 1960. For over 50 years i contributed until it hurt. My contributions were reduced after Wayne La Pierre took the NRA into partisan politics and began whining and railing about stuff outside the NRA charter. My contributions ceased after 2019 NRA convention: They may resume after WLP is canned. the bylaws revamped and the current BOD gone; but not until.

i've followed the now blazing NRA dumpster fire since the first wisp of smoke appeared. Josh Powell and WLP are cut from the same piece of soiled cloth.

On 2 May, 2022 the NY attorney general filed the Second Amended Complaint against the NRA. This complaint is updated to include the dirty NRA laundry exposed during the phony bankruptcy that cost NRA members $20 million dollars.

Read the Causes of Actions beginning on page 163. You can't make this stuff up:

NYAG2ndAmendedComplaint.pdf (firearmscoalition.org)

The trial will likely begin in summer, 2023.

My beef with the NRA is that when I have renewed it has thoughtfully been for a nice five-year term.
Within six months the breathless "URGENT - YOUR NRA MEMBERSHIP IS EXPIRING!" letters commence.

That makes decent and honest people feel if NRA cannot be honest with simple stuff they are compromised.
The wise and pragmatic technique would be to simply ask for financial contribution or scheduled giving.

I guess some organizations are using that practice to collect the money earlier. AARP starts dunning me around May or June trying to collect next years' dues by a similar tactic.

These merchandising tactics almost seem to run like fads. The latest ploy in merchandising seems to be "threatening" that the company is going under or otherwise shutting down and once the inventory is gone you'll be SOL, you poor slob.

Due to covid and supply problems and so on and so forth. The covid excuse has become a mantra, like "computer error" used to be.

Buy now!

People hsve to learn to "catch on": to these things. I'm not sure any of it is actually "dishonest," but are really just merchandising fads.

Thank goodness the fad of using cutesey animal mascots seems to be fading... I guess we'll see. That really irks me. Geico (Government Employees Insurance Company) is kind of forgivable with their stupid gecko mascot, so I'll give them a pass.

Observing the advertising industry can be highly entertaining.

Now that's an ugly document and they even got our girl here in Florida on it.

Those guy's not only have to deal with the state of New York, but after that the IRS.

The NRA sponsors our youth activities at the range by paying for the guns & ammo for all the events we have. So your membership dollars not only pay for Mr. LaPierre's suits they pay to teach our youth to shoot & to be safe handling guns.
When you figure the price of 10 or 20 suits compared to the price of preventing one child having an accident with a gun. I would say let LaPierre to have all the suits he wants just teach the children to properly handle guns, so they don't have accidents or worse yet become anti-gunners.

Have you read that document; we are so far beyond suit's.

Personally I am always amazed that NRA members and Pew Warmers are members of AARP.

If you are putting out a fire with a bucket that has a hole in it the first thing you need to concentrate on is to get the fire put out, not that there is a hole in the bucket.

The NRA has certainly given us plenty of things to be unhappy about over the years. But they have also done a lot of good. And there are still very many good, honest, hardworking people there that continue to battle for us and provide many good services. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The anti gunners would like nothing better than to see the NRA disappear. Like it or not it is the long time flag ship organization. It is what the vast majority of people think of when pro gun organizations are brought up. Letting it go under would be a serious mistake on our part.

Changes need to be made that's for sure. I don't know how I as an individual can help with that. But it seems that with all of this disgruntled noise being made somebody must be hearing it.

Letting the NRA die would be a big mistake.

Wrong NRA!!!!

The NRA Foundation, a separate and distinct tax exempt charity, accomplishes that. BTW: The NRA Foundation has less money to spend because WLP ripped off that organization too.

I've zinged them (and others) on their stupid lockbrained anti-gun Californumbskull positions, if that's what you're referring to. It's kind of amazing to me that organizations for the most vulnerable and victimized of the population are anti-firearms. Like AARP and the Jewish hierarchy. JPFO is an exception, but I wonder how many gentiles ever look at that very pro-2A site. (I am not Jewish, but I was raised in a Jewish neighborhood.)

Fortunately, my brain is locked into the pro-2A direction. LOL.

But the California (if I may ":group" people unfairly) attitude seems to penetrate into even some firearms enthusiasts out there. Guns is bad. Guns cause violence.

I am a life member of GOA and SAF and an Endowment member of NRA. I got my father life memberships as well and I continue to donate to all of the above.

What is one child's life worth??

But shouldn't the Parents teach their Kid these things and not some organization; plus if the Parents are not involved I personally do not want a child handling guns because after they have left the range there is No oversight at home.

Yep I am also a member of AARP. And maybe I contribute to an organization or two that are against things I am in favor of. The problem is that no single organization favorably supports everything important to me. I am 76 so many of the causes they support matter to me. NRA supports many things that matter to me too even though WLP has proven to be dishonest.

Has anyone here ever found an organization that favorably supports EVERYTHING important to them? Or is everybody here just focused on one thing in life?

I have been an NRA member since 1964, Life Member since 1967, Benefactor since 2000 and joined Golden Eagles a few years ago. I was in Cincinnati when the first crisis happened and I was in Indianapolis when the last crisis happened. I confess that both times I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. After Cincinnati the NRA became a voice that represented firearm owners in a big way and advocated for national changes that probably would not have happened without NRA advocacy. I do not know if W.L.P. has done all the things that have been reported. What I do know is that some folks in government agencies at all levels would like to see the NRA go away. By any means possible! They will say almost anything, whether true or not, about any group that they disagree with. Until a court decision comes down, I do not place a lot of importance on accusations made be folks hostile to the NRA and I will continue to support the NRA.

I would have liked to been in Cincinnati but was deployed overseas.

I am definitely not going with the government's words I'm going with how Mr. Lapierre answered the questions asked.

Board Member Number 5 took in a great deal of money from the NRA with not much to show for it.

The Morel of the story; don't do shady things and you will not have to worry about the knock on the door.

Pretty much this whole thing smacks of "politics". Of the top paid non-profit CEOs WLP doesn't even rank in the top 10, I don't think he's even in the top twenty. This is not a defense of WLP, just posting fact. Now, did he do what the antis are claiming in the way they are claiming? That's a good question however when something is political in nature I tend to take everything everyone says with a very large block of salt, sometimes it takes an entire salt mine......... I haven't been a NRA member for decades primarily because I dislike when any organization starts badgering me for money via scare tactics and the NRA is rather guilty of that. But then again so is most every organization out there regardless of what they stand for which is why I don't give to any of them either.

What is one child's life worth??
"It's for THE CHILDREN!"

Wow, really? Using classic guilt-induction "argument" 1.A?
(1.B. is "If it can save ONE LIFE...")

Seriously, many of us understand that the NRA is actually a web of five more separate legal entities, some charitable some political., some professional association. Yes, some of them do good works. (The reason I have not resigned my Life Membership.) Some of them have apparently ripped off others. However, until the entire family is cleaned up and reconciled to the ethical treatment of members and the public, some of us choose to withhold support from all of those entities.

I've lomg felt that the attacks on La Pierre were part and parcel of the huge assault on tjhe NRA and the 2A in general. There may be a problem with Mr. La Pierre, but right now, with the unprecedented amount of anti-firearms propaganda being leveled at the whole firearms community we should not be too concerned with dotting the Ts and crossing the Is and recommending absolute unrealistic accountability with Mr. La Pierre.

As I've said before, I'd rather my pro-2A representatives (such as the NRA CEO and lobbyists) approach the legislators in high-priced suits, shoes, and ties than in jeans and sweatshirts.

Honesty is one thing, but unrealistic honesty is counter-productive.

What kind of car does your Pastor drive? What kind of suits does he wear? Are you not petitioned for more money every Sunday?

Come on, guys. Get real. I mean reality real.

I suspect too many of us have been victimized by subtle propaganda efforts of the anti-2a juggernaut.
