NRA lobbying for money or a scam

What is with all the worry about NRA solicitations? Has no one just learned how to say no, not at this time or learned how to use the key on the keyboard marked Delete? I give whenever I can and at other times I just use the above methods. Who else can we count on to act as a lobby to support our 2nd Amendment rights? Give me a break and stop complaining. Sorry to be so blunt but I just had to get it off my chest.

"Why does the NRA still have to solicit?"

Because federal law does not permit the use of dues for political purposes. Federal law. So they have to solicit for money.

_____________

ILA = Institute for Legislative Action

"Thank you for contacting NRA-ILA.

Due to various laws, the NRA-ILA is a separate entity and it does not receive any funding from normal membership dues. The NRA-ILA's funding comes from separate member donations specifically contributed to support our lobbying and political activities.

Normal member dues support training, education, shooting sports activities and the cost of the magazine.

Again, thank you for your inquiry and please do not hesitate to share any of your thoughts or concerns in the future."

"They send me notices all the time telling me it's time to renew my membership, which hasn't yet expired."

Due to the nature and logistics of mass mailing, it's cheaper to send the entire mailing list than to pay people to constantly edit it and keep it up to date daily or monthly, etc. And if you send the money early it goes to good use.

Is this a real problem for you?

i dropped my first membership due to poor financial conditions and their solicitations. I was particularly ticked off about the unrequested dvd/coin mailings. The first packages were returned unopened with a request to stop mailing them to me. Then learned that , if not requested then you were not obligated to send them back. Received about a dozen before not reupping my membership and at least another dozen after my membership had expired. They are still in a box somewhere in my garage. Since my new membership has been started about 4 months ago, i haven't received anything except my membership package in the snail mail. There is a lot of email traffic from them which is easy to stop if i cared to and doesn't cost them anything.
i guess they send out millions of dvd to all its members, i don't think they should send out dvd then say pay or mail back. Anything for a charge sould be asked first. And wow always tons of renew letters

Per federal law (and the post office)
when somebody GIVES you something via the mail, it's yours
so all those 'first one free, keep it and we'll send the rest of the series each month, return it in 30 days and don't get billed' offers

are this, UNLESS YOU BUY OUR PRODUCT WE CAN'T BILL YOU
so keep the DVD, hell use it for target practice, or RTS C.O.D.

Yosemite Sam, I got the same phone call a couple of days ago, offered 5 yrs for $100.00. I told her that was a good deal but I recently retired and don't have alot of extra money and just recently renewed my membership, she understood then asked if I could contribute to veterns fund, so I reminded her I just don't have any extra money at this time. Then she started in on how they needed money to try and defeat Obama in the coming election, I assured her that I was not voting for him and thats the best I can do at this time. She finally gave up on me, and said thanks for not hanging up on her.

Regardless of the long list of wonderful things the NRA does the bottom line is they're still in it for profit. When the board wants more money then they'll start pushing harder. How hard is too hard? That's up to the "market" to decide.

We have an administration that caused a bunch of guns to be intentionally provided to mexican drug gangs to back up the lie that we need a new assault weapon ban in the US.

Support the nra and every other gun-rights group you can. If you don't donate to the nra-ila, pick another, because we can all see how Holder and other members of the administration are itching to eliminate your constitutional rights.

You can of course support that statement with hard facts.

Please put brain in gear before hands in motion!

Subject: Offensive DVD mailer
Don't know what they sent you (sounds like it was porn!), but if you don't want your FREE DVD, feel free to send it my way-I can't get 'em to send me any more free DVDs! Many years ago I got Ten Guns That Changed The World (or sumpin' close) which I kept (without paying), enjoyed, and passed around for my friends to enjoy.

Been a while, but unless something has changed:
1. The DVD probably didn't come from the NRA-it's probably from a 3rd party, if that distinction makes a difference to ya-you can probably find info stating such buried in the fine print.
2. Visit Receipt of Unsolicited Merchandise.
3. Enjoy your new 'offensive' DVD!
4. When they send you mail wanting payment, toss it in the trash.
5. If they finally call you (as they did me) looking for payment, inform them you know the regulations AFA receiving unsolicted merchandise through the mail, and you might tell 'em to feel free to send any more unsolicted merchandise your way (as I did).

After the phone call, you'll probably never hear from 'em again (I didn't).

I guess I'm lucky.

That DVD thingie is the only thing I ever got from them. I guess they decided they were the Columbia House record club all of a sudden.

Surely everyone knows that that sort of thing is a gift (or trash).

Do you know who actually puts it in the return envelope so that they don't have to pay for it? The same kind of sucker who still leases their landline telephone from the phone company.

.

Ive never recieved a phone call from them, maybe because i pay to keep it unlisted. I to get flyers/membership requests from them that go straight into the shredder.

I also got sick of the junk mail and dropped my membership.
However, I still believe the work they do is important to gun owners. What works for me is I send a anonymous donation every year. Doing my part without the irritating whining and begging.

Once again, a call to the 800 number on the back of your membership can stop the mailings. Do you feel the same way about all the junk mail you get from your local retail outlets with sale fliers.

I guess throwing unwanted mail and papers away is a real excerise for some folks. Unblievable what some can gripe about.

1) Yes, the NRA constantly asks for money. So do most other non-profits that I've joined.

2) No, I would not give any money to any organization based on just a telephone solitication. It would be way too easy for a thief to get a list of names and CC numbers that way.

"i guess they send out millions of dvd to all its members"

Not all the members, because I've never received even one. Not as a Member. Not as a Life Member. Not as a Patron. And not as a Benefactor.

Maybe that Do Not Promote list info on the NRA FAQ page really works.

I can see both side to this. While I support the NRA's fight for our 2A rights... AND their need to seek funding... I resent their relentless asking for money. For years I've been bombarded with "We Need Money To Fight This"... or "We Need Money To Fight That".

What I've learned is, more often than not, this is greedy corporate CEO's hiding behind a "Good Cause"... "Non-Profit Organization". I'm NOT saying this is the case here... just that MY TRUST IS LOST.

I wrote that my trust is lost. I didn't write that lost faith is due to the NRA. The issue is we are BOMBARDED by requests for donations from dozens of organizations that claim they support causes that are near and dear to our hearts and sincerest principals. I've demanded to know how much of the funds actually collected go towards the causes to which I've donated and it's as little as 12 percent. I'm NOT insinuating that the NRA CEO's keep 88 percent. I'm writing that I DON'T KNOW but I WANT TO KNOW. :)

Many times these fund raising mailings are done by a marketing company and the organisation they're done for gets the monies that were agreed upon in the contract. Rest stays with the marketing firm.

Hey, look at it this way, its keeping Americans employed and paying taxes to help pay off our National Debt.

Win, win all the way.
