Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

Today I chose to carry my long time carry gun, a S&W CS45 and a spare mag. This pack goes with me almost everywhere or at least stays in the car/truck. There are some things not in the pack pictures, headlight and handheld flashlight with batteries for both. 2-3 Cliff bars, a reflective band, some 550 cord, a 110 Buck knife and likely some other things. I’ve carried the CS45 since about 2000 but my new CSX will likely get carry time in warm weather.
Edit-just noticed the picture of my open First Aid pouch doesn't show the fold open pouch which has meds, bandages and other stuff.
Get out and enjoy some freedom!

Nevermind the corn on the ground. There was a thick headed truck driver that forgot to open his tarp before starting to load. :what: :fire:. After working with a scoopshovel for an hour...hopefully I.....I mean he.....won't do that ever again. :scrutiny:

I see posts in this thread that include pics of hiking load outs.
Here is a pic of some of my edc work loadout.

After snapping the pic, I realized that in my vest pocket was a pair of mechanix gloves, a pair of ear plugs, a duct tape wrapped Bic lighter, and a large handkerchief. Another large handkerchief in my hip pocket.

Definitely EDC gear you have there. That flashlight must be a tough one! On the hottest of days I carry a Kel-tek 380 with a clip like yours because it virtually disappears. I am of the mindset the best gun is the one you have with you.

This group of wilderness roaming gun lovers like them all! Just some more than others:D

Rule number 1 for this thread is we don't judge what others carry.
Rule number 2 we like pictures of the great outdoors. Even if you are stuck in your office :cuss:
Rule number 3 enjoy your fellow THR (gun nuts) posts.

Now I have had support from members that my LCPII 380acp is adequate bear protection in the wilderness! Just shoot your hiking partner in the leg and run:rofl:

I wonder where all of the little Keltec 380 & 32acp pistols are. I would like a 32acp just to mess around with but never see them in shops???

Looking at the 380 and 32 on Handgunhero https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/kel-tec-p-3at-vs-kel-tec-p-32#compare-overview, they are almost exactly the same size. The 32 holds one more round (7+1) but I think 380 ammo is easier to get. When in the woods I want something I can proficiently shoot farther than the Kel-Tec 380.

Today my wife and I did about a 5 mile hike on the Air Line State Park Trail here in CT. I chose to carry my S&W CSX. Nice day, sunny, almost 50 and no wind. Snow is coming over the next few days. Get out and enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and enjoy some freedom!

Your arms look pretty boney and you need to trim your nails....and that CSX looks pretty big for your paws....but it looks like it works for you.

I hope that target was at least 40 yards away…
Looks like I was using a shotgun doesn't it, LOL. It's an NRA B-34, 1/2 size silhouette, shot at 25 yards. So equivalent to 50 yards. For offhand with the CSX, I'm ok with it for now. When the Dicken's Drill came out (the good Samaritan that stopped the mall shooter at a supposed 40 yards) I made that my carry gun goal. So getting 8 out of 10 hits at 50yds, off hand rapid fire is what I'm working on.

I chose to carry my Para GI Expert on my 2.3 mile walk today with about ½ mile off the beaten path=down the path of the logging/brush cutting equipment. 38 F with 20 mph wind so a little chilly. I’ve had the Para since shortly after they came out – 2011? I recently installed the VZ Alien Grips which are very aggressive. I think they work well for carry since they provide a good grip but when at the range I wear the 5.11 gloves to take it easy on my hands. I use/have always used Chip McCormick 8 round mags. I also installed Dawson Precision sights as they have sights with the correct cut. They give you a "free" hat when you take a class at the Sig Academy. I've taken several classes there including their Patrol Rife and Shotgun Instructor courses. I was Active Duty military at the time. I have Level IIIA soft armor in my backpack. I was and will always be a Boy Scout - "Be Prepared"

Get out, get some exercise and enjoy some Freedom!

Looks like I'm carrying the torch for this thread and that's OK, I've been a lurker for a long time but now retired so I have some time.
---
I chose to carry my Para GI Expert but today in my new Galco Combat Master holster. Break-in was 24hrs with the Pistol in a plastic zip-lock bag. This is the most expensive holster I have purchased "so far" as Homer would say! I really like it so far. The belt is a Kore that I've had for about a year. I can't see ever going back to a traditionally belt. I had a nice, slow, two mile stroll with several stops one of which was to listen to a group of Wood Frogs.

Nice pistol!!!
When are you going to install the ambidextrous safety?
Just kidding! I'm a lefty and think all 1911 & 2011 handguns should have ambidextrous safeties :)

Thanks! It definitely has some wear on it. Para's proprietary coating back then was a little lacking. It has been reliable and accurate. I never thought about ambidextrous safety even though I do practice left hand.

Today I chose to carry my "TC Trapper" and the "Little Brat", an 1862 .36 caliber Pocket Police. Black Powder Only!
318hk6.jpg
I stopped for lunch of course, practiced my bush-craft primitive fire starting skills, and cooked up a couple of brats, and ate a pickled egg. There are two sections of state land, divided by private land. I have a fire ring on each section, in out of the way nooks, off any game trails and where most people/hunters would not pass by them, hard to see unless one walked right up on them. This is at the base of a small cliff and kind of in a thicket.
318hk4.jpg
The snow is going away at last, but enough left to safely put out the fire, and clean enough to melt for coffee water.
318hk2.jpg
The melting snow makes for lots of little temporary ponds. Good places to sit back, stare at nature, and smoke a cigar or the pipe. (TABACCO and Mullein in the pipe fools! No I ain't no stoner!) Today it was the pipe.
318hk3.jpg
Another temporary pond to ponder. Some of these will keep water in them up until June, or a little later. Some will dry up fast. During hunting season I spend a lot of time here.

Came across this freaky tree root with lichen all over it. Photo didn't really capture the colors. When I squatted down in the water (had my rubber boots) to take this pic, I heard something big with four legs and hooves run by, but I went ahead and got the pic I wanted, it was difficult to keep my shadow out of it. When I stood up and looked around, I saw no hide or hair of deer, elk, or moose. It was gone, and most likely a moose, as the area is moose infested now. Too noisy for a deer. All in all a great day as usual, saw no coyotes, but did see three deer. Shot the "Trapper" a few times just to practice reloading fast in the field. Thanks for listening!

There is truth to that. Never know when you might need to change hands. One reason I like double action revolvers for CC, I can use them left handed. As I ride a motorcycle a lot, that could come in handy. Also why I like my PT92CS, (Taurus) being double action, I can leave the safety off, hammer down, and use either hand, just pull the trigger. Having said that, I am a fan of the 1911 and often carry one. A bit heavy, but nice and slim. And I like that big old fat bullet too. !!! And, it's capability to make long shots gives me confidence. Got a coyote with it at 150 yards once, first shot. ! But yeah, need to put an ambi-safety on mine for sure. When I get around to it. One of these days. Might not be tomorrow.

Those Hungarian FEG/AP-MBP pistols might be found. It's a neat little .32acp/7.65 Browning double-action auto pistol. I think I'd take one over a Kel-Tec, but I'm not really familiar with the Kel-Tecs. I like mine, would not carry it for protection if I had a better choice, due to the caliber. Yeah, it will leave a mark, but a .380, 9mm, or .45ACP will leave a better mark. Otherwise, I really like the pistol.

I took 3-4hrs today to enjoy that great outdoors, and ended up going around 3 miles with maybe 1250' elevation gain. Nice day, just a bit windy.

After the initial 3/4 mile and 900' elevation push, I got my breath back. Looking back down on the gulch, I was pretty pleased to find it had only taken me 30 minutes.

I think it helped that I finally bought a new pack that centers and lower the weight I'm carrying. But it also helped that I emptied my pockets completely and freed up my legs.

10 years ago I stayed right away from fancy designs like this. I preferred a military style tough guy pack. But times have changed and so have I. Now I'd rather be comfortable, even at the risk of looking like a yuppie. And as I'm planning to do more alpine hikes this year, I need all the help I can get!

I wandered on and found some views.

When I sat down to relax, these guys came over and went from tree to tree. Probably Red Crossbills, but certainly a Crossbill of some sort.

I'm not sure when the mine slots were finally covered, but being that they went almost straight down for 20-25', it's about time.

And I was carrying, on it's debut outing, the new Gen4 G29. With a TLR-8A (that is useless in broad daylight just fyi), and for weight saving a spare 10 round G20 magazine filled with 180gr FMJ-FN and BE-86. The reduced weight on both sides of the belt was something my hip flexors greatly appreciated. :D

I have been working on reducing the weight of my pistol belt lately. Knife on the leg, boy-scout canteen instead of my Army one on the hip, etc.

That would be a heck of a basement if one built a cabin over it!!

The perfect pack is hard to find. I use two, one for winter hikes, and another for spring, summer and fall. Looks like you didn't have a color choice!

Looks like neat country. Looks like a good hike.
