Enough new people to ask. Old timers have good comments. For me 30- 06 , to hold that much history in my hand. How many men died from automatic fire and rifle fire in so many wars all over the world. The few other reloaders I know couldn't care less, just in it for cheeper ammo.

My favorite cartridge to reload is 45 auto partly because of the history of it in wars, but mainly because I love shooting them. So many powders work so well in it along with bullets but my favorite is a 200 grain LSWC with 4.8 grain of Hodgdon/IMR Hi-Skor 700X been hard to find lately so I am currently using American Select . I have 4 - 45 semi- auto’s and one revolver in 45 Auto Rimmed but my favorite is my Springfield V-16 Longslide…

I would have to say 45-70 partly due to its history, and the fact that I feel the possibilities with that cartridge are somewhat endless…

Whatever is new to me and screwy enough that nobody at the gun shop has ever heard of it. 256winmag, 7-30 waters, 223 ackley improved, 357 Herrett and 7.62 cetme are enough to get some blank stares. Then there’s the old stuff that is nearly forgotten like 32sw or “22 rimfire… no not long rifle…no not short either, just 22 rimfire… aw hell just give me 22 super colibri and I’ll mill the points off of all of them to get length right for the cylinder”.

I refurbished a small batch of never fired late 30s to early 50s 7.62x63 (mil 30-06). It was painstaking and tedious, trying to keep them as untouched as possible, while making them safe and viable. I really enjoyed it.

But my favorite to load generally is 30 carbine. Don't know exactly why really, I just think they're neato.

Edited to correct-the -06 had never been fired. Why I wrote "once fired"I do not know

32 ACP rimmed

At one point during the Obama years I realized that with my cast bullets, I could reload cheaper than buy 22s. However, my lead source (wheel weights) suddenly dried up and I decided that I needed a 22 LR equivalent gun that could handle really small bullets.

My first solution was a SP-101 in 327 along with a custom NLG 55 gr bullet mold. It worked ok, but the case was "too big" to be real happy with my mouse fart loads. All of the free space made for big velocity swings depending on powder position.

My next solution was to stub tube a 7.5" 30 cal (from a scrap 30-30 pull) for my TC. I tried 32 S&W short but the cases were too small for me to handle without fumbling a lot.

I deepened the chamber for 32 ACP. The gun shot good, but my 32 ACP brass was not fun to load. The case size was much better than the 32 shorts, but the rims were very inconsistent size from brand to brand and generally smaller than I liked. So I made up a big batch of brass 32 ACP in length but with the same rim dimension as the 32 S&W Long.

With reloaded primers, 1.7 gr TG and a 55 gr bullet I get a great 890 fps load for offhand practice shooting at 30 ft. Last time I figured my out of pocket cost for the materials, it was like $1.80 per hundred.

That's a project to be proud of.

40S&W is my favorite cartridge to reload. It's cases are easy to resize and loads can be varied from 9mm lite to quite spicy, plus it shares projectiles with my 10mms. In my youth, I learned to shoot .38/.357, but the 40S&W was what the LEOs were carrying in semi-autos, and that was WAAAYYYY cooler than fuddy-duddy revolvers. Full disclosure, though I still favor the 40S&W, I have come back full circle to the enjoyment of revolvers, including an M610 from which I can doubly enjoy shooting you know what...40S&W!

Of the 10 cartridges for which I reload, 9mm sucks hind teat.
with 9mm coming in last place

Anything straight wall I like over anything bottleneck
