that’s true!Note the P229 was designed for the .40 S&W.
Until the Gen 5 guns, the G23 was little more than a G19 with a .40 S&W barrel. The 3-pin design was to fix problems with the .40S&W guns, the Gen 4 was designed to fix problems with the .40 S&W guns, and the Gen 5 finally put a heavier slide on the .40 S&W guns. We'll see if that's the answer.
I think the 229 is a bit of a bargain right now.. seen 3 locally, used for $400 to $450 range. someone is off loading them40 S&W? It's hard to beat the HK USP. Sig P229 comes in second.
I pocket carried that 23 in my cargo pants (yes, cargo pants was cool 10 years ago) and I shot my sister 229 and it’s QUALITYI have both, I use the Sig for my nightstand gun. I often carry the Glock in the winter. If I could only keep one, it would be the Glock. If I had to make a head shot at 25 yards, it would be the Sig hands down.
I have a junk load of .40 components and only 1 gun.
I’ve seen lots if them latelyI currently have a 226 in 40 S&W that I really liked and was my favorite until I got my M11-A1. I’m thinking of getting rid of the 226 and getting a 229 in .40 with the E2 grips. Don’t see myself without a .40 anytime soon.
had a gen 3 - 23 and it gave me ZERO ISSUES but I didn’t shoot hot .40 though them itherI can’t comment on the SIG but I do have 2 G23s. A gen 3 and 5, I really like them. I’ve heard the heavier slide is supposed to cure something. I’ve never seen or heard of the other generations having any problem myself. I have a 22 and 27 gen 3 and 4. Never had any problem with any of them.
Me either. I don’t hand load the semi auto pistols (9/40/45) so everything I shoot is factory. I don’t even use the +p, +p+ in the 9s or 45s. I figure if I hit the target the normal stuff works fine.had a gen 3 - 23 and it gave me ZERO ISSUES but I didn’t shoot hot .40 though them ither
Nice thing about Glock 23 is that you can readily shoot cheaper 9mm through 40-9mm conversion barrels. (FYI, Glock 23 barrel will work in G27 so G23 40-9mm conversion barrel can be used in both G23/G27 )had a gen 3 - 23 and it gave me ZERO ISSUES but I didn’t shoot hot .40 though them ither
used G23 here are $450~Depending on how bottomless the financial well is, a trade-in Glock will be close to half the cost if s similar condition SIG 229.
If $$ is no object, the 229 is a nice pistol, with a bit more panache than the Glock. Personally, I would go the SIG route if I was in the market for another .40 S&W pistol.
(Full disclosure: I have a Beretta 96 Centurion DAO, a S&W 4013 and a Puerto Rico Police trade-in Glock 22 in .40.)
Stay safe.
The Free state of Kentucky! I’m in Seattle and it’s Raining! If you live in northern or central Kentucky I'll make you a heck of a deal on a P229 DAK police trade. I made a lowball bid on Gunbroker about 10 years ago and actually won the darned thing. My hands are just too small to find it comfortable.
