I have seen many post about loosing their guns in a tragic boating accident. Will someone explain the joke to me...... please????

No FBI/NSA/ATF I don't own guns anymore, every single one of them was lost in a tragic boating accident. It's just a humourous way of poking fun at the idea that the ATF is hunting on gun forums for people to harrass.

OH NO! Now the ATF knows our secret. Actually I didnt really get it either, but I kinda figured it was something along those lines.

I'm sorry to hear your loss mr. jay gatz. I too have been a victim of the high seas. Everyone jokes about losing their guns until it really happens. Drats. =[

It's a way of saying that you "lost your guns". If you lose them over water, then you can't really retrieve them, or verify that your story is true. If you said that they were stolen they'd arrest you for not reporting them. If you said that you sold them, then they would just go after someone else. If you lost them in the woods, well you're just stupid. So as you see a tragic boating accident is a great excuse for not being able to produce the guns that they say you have.

Two stupid myths:

1. The guns were lost in a tragic boating accident.
2. The ATF surfs these forums to grab your guns.

Each is equally stupid as the other.
No reasonable person would ever really believe that you actually had a boating accident. Yeah, right.
And no reasonable person would ever believe that a US Government employee would be able to convince his supervisor that he should log a thousand hours this year on his time sheet, all from 6pm to 11pm, surfing the internet at home. Yeah, right.

:)

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching you.

We all know that LEO's surf the internet looking for child porn and pedophiles. It's not JUST Chris Hanson. So I don't think it would be surprising if gun law enforcement looked at gun sites, at least now and then.

On top of which there are plenty of LEO's who are hunters and shooters and look in on their own time. It's not the place to expect any sort of confidentiality.

What you mean that we BATF agents don't surf teh web? Now we have all your secret.

Agent Ed Zackley Badge #99

All your secret are belong to us.

Granted, BATF agents may not individually look at forums, and start investigations there. But everything within the electronic world is forever there. Even if you hit the little "Delete" button, it is never gone. Posting online, forums, emails are forever. Unless an EMP goes off over the world, and all electronics are lost.
There are programs that comb through websites and forums looking for key words and marking that info for further investigation.

So yes, I did loose my firearms off the Western Coast, in the Pacific Ocean. The were accidentally bumped and feel off the side of the boat. We were about 5 miles out from the coast. They are lost forever.

Mine were taken by aliens.... then they made me forget I ever owned them...

Not sure why they did the anal probe, but it does not bear on this case.. officer...

That sounds like ATF talk right there! haha

I don't understand this paranoia regarding LEO's and BATFE agents. A lot of my friends are LEO's, or are fathers of LEO's, and they are just average shmoes like me who like to shoot. For those who are trying to skirt the NFA, the cat-and-mouse game is going to catch up to them sooner or later. Don't like the law? Then support the organizations that are trying to change them.

I lost mine in that horrible boating accident... then went back with a magnet to retrieve them only to realize that there where a lot more guns down there than just mine!
