Opinions on Interarms-BSA Rifles...Please?

I have until tomorrow night to make a deal on a rifle. It isn't stolen, and I know the seller quite well. He's in a pinch for money and is offering to sell me his Interarms (Made by BSA he tells me) Mark X bolt action rifle in .308. I am not at all familiar with this series of rifle; please share any info.

The Rifle is in excellent shape - 95% wood, near mint deep blue-black metal, mirror bore.

It's a Mauser design, claw extractor and all.

The action is smooth and the gun is pretty.

The asking price is 250.00 with scope bases and rings included.

A. Is the price fair?

B. Is this series of rifle accurate? I won't tolerate an inaccurate rifle, no matter how pretty it is.

Fair at twice the price. One of my uncles took a BSA .375 on his first two African safaris, and had no complaints. Good solid guns.
 
That's a very cheap price, and they are usually as accurate as any Mauser. Keep in mind the Mauser is not designed to be a match rifle, it's a fighting/hunting rifle.
 
I had one in 22-250. Loved it. 250 is a cheap price. I preferred the Interarms to my Remington 700 ADL.
 
The barreled action is indeed a Mauser made in Yugoslavia by Zastava. If it's a Whitworth, it passed through England on the way to the US. If it's an ordinary Mark X, it didn't. Well worth $250, the accuracy depends on the individual gun.

I don't think BSA did the Whitworth work, but it's possible.
 
Thanks for all of the info. I agreed to buy the gun. I'll have it in my hands one day next week, and will post an update then.

He seems quite certain it was made by BSA, not Zastava, but I can't check any markings before I get the rifle.

The rifle is vintage early-mid seventies.

:cool: Excellent rifle, excellent choice. If you don't like it, I will certainly take it!

BTW, BSA may have used several different actions. There were several British makers (BSA, Parker Hale, etc.) who used continental makers for their actions. I have a couple and am always on the look out for another.
 
I've got to go with"Al". I own a Whitworth in .338 win mag. and a Mark X in 30.06. Great wood, great finish, and as accurate as any hunting rifle need be. At 200yds. they consistantly stay in my required 2" group. Enjoy the rifle, and as said before"If ya don't like it--I'll take it".
 
Seems to me you can't loose on that one, even if you don't like it, you can easily sell it without loss. (maybe even with a small profit)

Mine is a Withworth-Zastava in 270 win.

When you get it, take the action out of the stock. I'll bet it says "Zastava - Made in Yugoslavia" or words to that effect on the tang below the stock line. If it has any BSA markings at all, please post pictures. Enjoy!
