Issues with my pistol

The only help I can offer is to suggest you stay with the ammo that works. Hipoints are not know for dependability. Sure, someone will chime in that theirs has 20,000 rounds through it without any problems but as a whole they are not a gun you want to count on in a self defense situation.

Some guns are just ammo sensitive, probably what's up with your Hi Point. What was the military grade ammo?

If only one kind of ammo gave me trouble I'd just not use that type. Problem solved.

Some of the Pakistani ammo is loaded hotter, for subguns, most commonly you find this with Israeli ammo. Chances are the rounds are throwing your slide back too fast and your magazine cant keep up, try lubing the mazine a bit and see if that helps, as far as the magazine dropping out, the high point nine magazine release is in such a place that thumb quite often hits it during recoil, this is probably happening to you with the hotter rounds.

I own a couple of Hi Points and am very active on their forums. The major percentage of problems with them are magazine related. The metal isn't heavy enough to take being banged around at all, something that a lot of us have contacted the company about but so far have only gotten minor changes in their design through. There are sticky's on the Hi Point firearms forum as to specs to adjust the mag ears to for best performance. Generally nose up is ears slightly too wide, nose into the feed ramp is front ears too narrow.

But like Hanzo said, if it's only one brand of ammo I would fire something else before deciding that I had a problem. Mine like the Federal Champion and Blazer brass but not the WWB in the bulk packs.

On the mag releasing randomly, if you are sure that you aren't inadvertently hitting it, then take the right side grip off and check the spring under it, make sure it is located correctly. You might also want to unload the pistol and look into the mag well to see if maybe the magazine catch got damaged on the top side somehow to where it isn't locating correctly under the tab on the mag.

When I fire the hi point it will jam and the clip will just randomly fall out of the pistol like it is being ejected by the power of the load.

A worn magazine catch (in the gun) or worn retention slot (in the magazine) could be causing both of those problems, by allowing the magazine to drop too low.

That "hotter spec" (read improper) ammo was the cause of much trouble to the Beretta 92 resulting in numerous failures, some catastrophic. Thus the 92FS which prevented slides from ejecting into the shooter's face.

Reloading will save you more on ammo than cheap ammo and, if done right, less wear and tear on your pistols.

THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM!

It happens, particularly with oddball surplus stuff. Save that ammo for a carbine (hi point makes a surprisingly ergonomic one) or trade it to someone who has a 9mm long gun, it won't be a winner in most handguns.

If you are seeking out cheap ammunition, steel case is the way to go, avoid the antique stuff.

I was given a C-9 some 15 years ago by my brother. I quickly found out that these guns can be ammo sensitive. You simply need to stick with what your C-9 wants to shoot 100%. Dumping the Eastern European ammo is probably a good idea. I just ran 50 rounds of Russian steel cased stuff thru my TCP. I wasn't expecting much and wasn't disappointed. There are guns that like/dislike certain types of ammo. Make a note of what yours does/doesn't like and adjust accordingly.

I've used Federal Champion from Walmart, Blazer brass (Not the aluminum case), PMC, Winchester PDX1 bondeds, Magtech guardian golds and some Wolf in my Hi Points without any problems. Shot some WWB bulk pack, but after two underpowered rounds where the bullet literally fell out of the end of the barrel decided that was enough for me. Lots of people say the 50 round WWB works fine, but it's actually the same price as the Blazer and more expensive than the Federal so for the range I stick with those two, Federal and Blazer.
