I got the itch for rifle a while back and so when the remington 700 milspec came into my local gunshop on a transfer I could finally put my hands on it, I then had the shop order me one just like it(700 milspec 5R in .308). It arrives today so pictures will be up soon.

For scope mount I chose a Leopold picatinny(sp) one piece and leopold 30mm rings

I will be lapping these in to insure the leopold mark 4 4.5-14x50 long range mil-dot scope fit is perfection

Out front will be a harris 6-9" ultralite iPod

Eventually it will get a magazine setup.

Any suggestions or knowlege on this will be much appreciated

Looking forward to the pics. I've been trying to decide which flavor of the Remington 700 to get myself. Don't forget a range report please!!:D

I would have gone with EGA 20MOA base and Seekins rings. Might want to consider getting the action/barrel refinished as the SS sticks out a bit...it's a matte SS versus the typical "bling" SS.

The 5R shoots good for a factory rifle, but it's not all that...I'd also suggest replacing the stock with something better...IE McRee, XLR, Manners, McMillan, AICS.

do you think with the EGW i will need lows or mediums on the seekins rings?

ill send the leopoulds back

We'll I got the scope in 40mm instead of 50mm due to a $300 difference

I meant to take pictures of it and its wicked muzzle flash but will do it thursday

The irony is that I have only been able to shoot 20 yards. I did a 20 round break in and now ready to do some more research and go long range with it.

Frank,

I am familiar with your rifle. You've got a fine production rifle now. In my own experience, the R5 does best with the middle weight bullets. No surprise there as the 11.25 twist is optimized for 165 to 168 grain bullets.

Do you plan to reload or use factory ammo?

I wouldn't change a thing on your rifle until you are well, well experienced with it as is.

Keep us posted,

Your right the only thing I plan to change is the dinky recoil pad, for now.

I plan to use factory match ammo till I put many more rounds down the barrel and then get my reloading stuff together.

Not that a surprise but it put 15 of 20 in same hole with 2 shooters with little rifle experience. We pulled a couple but that was us.

I currently shoot 300 rnds a week so reloading is in my near future for sure

Now I need to study up on distance shooting
