What's the biggest game you'd hunt with a 10mm?

Shot placement. If you can land your 10mm in the right spot, you'll take down anything. Would I head out with my 610 as primary for elk? No. Deer? Sure. Primary for bear? No. Backup? Yes, but I'd rather have my G29 - more capacity, lighter weight.

Whitetail is the largest I've taken with 10mm. Pistol hunting for bear (or anything else for that matter) will have me packing the 8 3/8" scoped 44 Mag and a 2 5/8" 629PC on the hip for backup. 300gr sitting on 19gr H110 folds most stuff like a taco.

Whatever is close enough and yields a clear shot. I can't wait for the opportunity to use it on an elk or black bear. Of course they aren't that tough of an animal to drop. I am interested in seeing how well they will penetrate the hide of a war torn boar(pig). I did see a youtube video of a guy shooting a wild hog from about 2 yards with a 10mm while holding a video camera. Blast away and let us know if you find something too tough.

Under ideal conditions with the right load the 10mm should be able to take an elk or black bear.

Biggest animals I've taken was a 175 pound hog and about a 200 pound Axis deer.

Anything that I use my .357 magnum for. That'd be deer/hog for me, have taken both with a 6.5" Blackhawk. 10mm is about on par with my .357 loads from that gun.

gjgo looks like we live in the same city. If you use game calls to get your elk close to you it could be a 5 yard shot. At the velocity you speek of with a 180gr xtp that far exceeds the 550ftlbs at 50 yards. you might see an exit hole if you hit it behind the shoulder on a cow elk. I would sure like to come along and hold the backup rifle for you if it didn't work out. My bet is you will smash anything that you hit. I have a g20 sf with a 4.5'' barrell and am going to buy a 6'' storm lake or simillar barrel this spring. I will most definitelly target elk with it next year. The reason's I didn't this year is: they don't sell hunting ammo for it here in gj and two I have to do some work on the sight's for whatever reason this brand new g20 shoots 6' low at 10 yards. So after I file my front sight all the way off trying to get it to hit the point of aim. I will have to go back and get a raised rear sight and a new front sight and file some more.

I shot an elk years ago with my Glock 20. He was running, and about 25-30 yards away. Shot him with a hand loaded Black Talon. Whew!, he was fast, but before anybody gets their wad in bind, he was probably a June baby, and so was the size of a very large deer.

I've also shot a pig. He was looking at me about 30 feet away, and I shot him straight on. Hit him just below the chin, and he died asap. Again, with a hand loaded Black Talon.

Both bullets stayed in the target. Not sure I'd take a full grown elk at much past that shot, even though the bullet trashed both his lungs.

Elk can get REAL big. Were I to use the guns I have for elk, handguns that is, I reckon I'd use my Blackhawk pushing a 300 grain XTP at about 1120 fps or the Contender barrel in .45 Colt pushing it at 1200 fps. The contender's barrel is 7", the Blackhawk's 4 5/8".

Then again, handgunning elk might be all the reason I'd need to buy and develop a load for a .45/70 barrel for the Contender. Ouch....

I wouldnt and dont use autos for hunting, I only use large bore revolvers.

I'm not a hunter and would never think to kill an animal but I would, without hesitation hunt and kill that Decadent Species they call, "Gang Banger". And that's about it!

No gun clubs yet, I hear there are some good ones around. I think I shot a trap tourney at the OMGC. The spe shoot out, lot's of fun out there by the race track. I have been saving my brass and am trying to decide whether I wait until I have the money for a dillon 550 or just buy some dies for the RCBS single press that I have. I have been picking up cartridges at Jimmy's since he is the cheapest in town. 1/2 price on hornady's and about 40 cents a round for target ammo. Like I mentioned before I need to get the sights fixed or contact glock or something the gun shoots too low.

If you shoot a lot and can justify the cost, the Dillon is a fantastic machine.

Hmm, them gang banger animals have decent backstraps on 'em? Is there a season, a limit? I am one of those things known as Homo sapiens carnivorous, myself.

GJCO, I also have the phone number of one of the brass pickers in town he has a good supply of brass for most calibers.

Deer and Boar would be the biggest that I'd take my 10mm to hunt, but that'd about have to be on a bet as I just have too many guns that I concider better suited.

awesome, I think the only 10mm brass I ever stumble upon is the stuff I couldn't find from the last trip.

Wooly Mammoth...or Saber Tooth Tiger...perhaps a T-Rex if the shot was right.

OK, here's the cut and dry:

Ballistically illustrated, the 10mm Auto and the .357 Magnum are identical.

I've personally killed whitetail deer, black bear, and smaller game (coyote, fox, rabbit, squirrel, grouse) with it. Medium game (deer, black bear) have died within 50y of being shot with a single round. Small game is DRT.

Inside 150y with the skill to hit the vitals is where I would put the 10mm.

Ive shot deer and hogs with my 610 and would add black bear to the list but havent shot one with the 610. Using a heavy 200 grain and up flat nose cast bullet at full power your not much behind a 41 mag.
