Dang, you keep asking extra questions! Am I just packin' around the RIGHT rifle when the SHTF? The rifle I HOPE I'm carrying is an M4 style AR. It is not a pistol-caliber, it's a 5.56. It's capable from CQB to 600 yards. Most versatile, lightweight & practical (IMHO) in your scenario.

(Let me also point out that we frown darkly on "IBTL" drive-bys as well.)

There have been SO VERY MANY "what rifle for urban hostilities, break down of civilization, foraging/looting/stealing supplies, stopping others from foraging/looting/stealing supplies, "unrest," natural disasters, and any number of other apocalyptic themes that we really don't need another.

I really can't imagine how the question really needs this much discussion anyway. What does a rifle do? What might I need a rifle to do? What am I capable of doing with a rifle? If I really need a rifle to answer this need, which kind does whatever I'm imagining/fantasizing I'll need it to do? Is 'what rifle' really the important question to be asking if any of these events come to be?
