Firearm registration depends on where you live, and few places require it, so you're probably okay. However, if you are in possession of a pistol illegally, you'd be hard pressed to find someone here who is going to tell you it is okay to do so.

What state do you live in, so someone familiar with the law there can help you?

Nothing new there, really. Actually, the last 10-15 years have seen a dramatic turn-around in legislation and public opinion to a far more pro-gun orientation. In a great many ways, we're better off now than we have been at any time since about 1968.

MOST firearms in the US are not "registered." Very few states require any registration of Title I guns at all. Rest easy, you're in good company! Hundreds of millions of "unregistered" guns in the USA.

DO you WANT to sell the pistol? Why? I don't think you should ever sell one, unless you don't shoot it much and it doesn't have any personal value to you -- and you need the money for something else. Keep 'em. They don't take up much room and don't eat much.

What confiscation? I didn't see any confiscation scheduled any time soon! Did I miss the memo?

And, like I said before, no one knows WHO has WHAT firearms. There are something close to 300 MILLION of them in this country. VERY few are on any list.

If something is declared contraband and/or illegal to possess, then possessing it IS an illegal act. So that doesn't make much sense.

Just because you buy a gun and have to fill out the 4473 to get it, who's to say you didn't sell it, should the day come that the government tells the FFL to send in their 4473 forms so they can track the guns down.

Not to argue with the moderator but in IL we are facing another series of anti-gun bills that include "confiscation" as part of the plan....Part 1. Registration of all handguns and a $65 tax on each and every one with confiscation and felony charges to follow if you fail to do so..believe it is already out of committee (thanks, Barack's buddy Rahm). Part 2. Make all semiautomatic firearms illegal along with any firearm over 50 cal (includes shotguns)..like the first one, a second bill mandates confiscation and felony charges.

What good is an unregistered gun in a totalitarian state if it is illegal to use it for anything???

You can't defend yourself with it without getting arrested.
You can't use it for range practice without getting arrested.
You can't even show it to a friend in case he is an informant and you get arrested.
You can't leave it in your house in case the fire department comes and sees it, and you get arrested.
You can't put it in your car and drive to another state to shoot it, because you might get arrested.

Seems like no matter what you do with it, you might get arrested.

Mine were all lost in a tragic boating accident.

Do you really think the republicans would let a gun confiscation go through. The people that think the government is going to take their guns are the same ones that vote with that in mind. If they took all the guns, than the motivation for them people to vote strictly republican would be gone. On the other hand; if the fear of your guns being takin is still present, then the republicans can count on the worried people to vote for them again and again to secure a right that will most likely never be overturned without creating a civil war. They use fear to motivate people to do things all the time, just watch the news and count how many things "could" possibly kill you. They use the fear to get you to tune in and watch to find out what might kill you although it is usually a minute risk at best, but you did watch.
